A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

G,day to all, I need a replacement Airfilter is there a after market that will do the job :?: ,as original seem to be very expensive here in Oz.The one out of my bike is crumbling in my greasy mitts. If there are any Aussies reading this and you know where in Oz to get them could you let me Know :?: , it would be very much appreciated. :D

EMGO makes aftermarket paper element filters. With some shimming they even seal! The foam ones are pretty cheap from Suzuki around here.

Dont use "UNI filters" I dont know about the GS's but I put a uni airfilter on my ATC 200 and 185, they both run like crap with them in, I ended up buying the honda replacement.
I have a K&N in my GS1000, runs greeeeat!

In order for your bike to run right, without rejetting, you need to use a filter that provides the same air resistance. For that reason, I use OEM filters. 8)

I have the stock airbox and use a K&N replacement of the OEM. More expensive to buy, but mine is about 20 years old and still works great.

Re Airfilter

Thanks for the info,I found out, that when the guy from the bike shop quoted me he for some reason was giving me the price of the frame that the element is attached to.all i need is the foam.which is only AU$33.00.I am assuming the foam element can be replaced by a paper one? is this right?which is better ?one more question has any one heard of making their own foam element? As i know that the grade of foam used can be bought at a foam and rubber shop. thanks.

Ps the bike is a 1980 GS1000G

The one you use is probably just a piece of oily foam squished between two plastic grates. The paper filter is totally different. It's a hollow tube that gets wedged into the airbox.

You are going to be dissapointed when you see what you're getting for 33 bucks. The last owner of my bike made a new filter out of some humidifier spounge and tossed some oil on it. I suppose it worked okay but I wasn't too fond of the idea until I ordered an OEM replacement that looked identical.
