A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, heres the deal. I have a 1980 gs750 not sure if its a L or E. I can get it running off starting fluid, Also if i take the to t vent lines off the carb and blow air in them. Are the vent lines supposed to go somewhere or just kinda hang? Im getting real mad can't seem to figure it out it just wont run without blowing air into the to t vent lines someone please help me.

Get a long piece of tubing so you can snake it up to your helmet and blow into it while riding.:D

I did that twice already soaked in cleaner pulled all jets cleaned very very throughly. Do the Vent lines run anywhere??? does anyone know if the vent lines go anywhere? when i blow to much air the intake side of the carb will start SPEWING gas and I do mean spewing shoots a good 6 inches out of every carb. I cleaned everything. I wouldnt be asking anything if it was something maybe easy.

it was not anymore cant get to **** with it on so had to have it off to work on the damn thing and its to big a pain to put it on and off. just figured Id leave it off for the time being.

No airbox = FAIL

The carbs are jetted for the airbox and the engine won't run right without it unless you rejet. Easy fix.

but wouldnt it atleast run even bad without the airbox. I mean it wont even turn over at all.

In order to produce vacuum through carbs the airbox should be on..

Then find out what's wrong with your carburetors. It's hard to see the problem from here.
Did you dip the float bowls as well?

i didnt know the airbox was that big a deal on these especially on something so old. my new bikes can run bad without intake.

That's because they are fuel injected. The movement of air means nothing.

ok well i will try putting it back on and then go from there ANY I do mean ANY other ideas please please post because im sure i will have more problems thanks.

My carbs need rebuilt but it will at least start and run with the box, wont even fire without it. Same with cheap pods.

Food for thought..

PLugs, wires?

Plugs can look good even when fouled.

I did see all those posts when I searched the archives and if you read they dont answer my questions, but thank you for checking. I havnt had time to put the box on. sounds to me like this airbox its life or death for the motorcycle.

Without carb work the bike will not run without the factory airbox.

Its as simple as that!!
