If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Help Identifying some wires

Ok, I've decided to tackle my wiring loom as I wait for other parts for my rebuild. The bike is a 1982 GS550MZ Katana. Not sure if it uses the same wiring diagram as the other '82 models but I'm guessing it's pretty darn close if not the same.

Anyway, I found the wiring to be pretty hacked up when I got the bike. Not sure what worked and what didn't but I do know the starter would turn over when pressed so at least that worked.

Inside the headlight bucket I found some connectors that were not attached to anything and I need some assistance determining what was originally hooked into these. Yes, I have a wiring diagram but electrical savant I am not so thanks in advance for your patience.

I have attached the below pic and am looking for info on the double green (could be light green too) and double black connectors. I believe these are in the headlight bucket.

Thanks!

I am not specifically familiar with the Kats, but those two black wires do not look stock, dont think any stock wiring is that small of gauge. Maybe pull back that black tape and see what they are attatched to.

Green wires are usally for instrumnet backlights.

Stock Black wires are usally Left t/signal.

On my bike, light green is the right turn signal and black is the left one.

...and Suzuki kept to the same wiring convention on many of their models.

So you want us to strain our eyes so you don't have to?

Ok cool. Thanks Redman and Wisgolfer59. I appreciate the assist. The wiring diagram says light green for rt but says black with white tracer for left so maybe Redman is correct? Do you know if yours shows blk/wht or solid blk for the left blinker? Oh, and does it have two wires like mine or just a single at the connector? I can't tell from the diagram as I have a very rudimentary understanding of wiring systems and diagrams.

Nope. Just simply looking for confirmation from someone more experienced than I.

Did they go into your headlight bucket? Looks to me, and I can't tell very well, that they match up to the wiring coming off your clocks. If so, it will be to light them up when your headlight is on. Least ways that was how they were on my 550T. Clean it up real good and I think you'll find they are actually white and not green which is power and the black will be your grounds.

Yes, headlight bucket. I will peel off the tape tomorrow and get a better look...

Ok, figured it out based off another persons thread. These are in fact the blinker leads, positive from what I can determine. Why they have two wires I do not know but that's them. For some reason the PO completely bypassed these. Go figure...

Thanks though. The input did help.

................but says black with white tracer for left ......

Black/white does go to left t/signal, but it is the ground wire. Notice that black/white goes to most other devices also. It is the ground wire.
