Hi all,

i am am doing my first carb rebuild and think that one of the needle jets need to be replaced. I might have damaged it trying to remove it with pliers. How/where can I buy a needle jet (cylindrical tube with evenly spaced holes and oring sitting below valve needle) for my 79 Suzuki?

thanks!

jamie

Bump.

Does anyone know if I can use a jet needle for a 78 gs400 in my gs425. The 425 jet needle is discontinued and impossible to find. 78 gs400 seems quite available.

Any thoughts?

thanks.

Post the number from your old needle jet. Someone here may have one.

Have you tried one of the carburetor places like Sudco? Wait, jet needle or needle jet? You said it both ways.

Sorry for the confusion. The part I'm looking for seems to have a lot of names. I think the part no. is 09494-00239 (it's called a nozzle needle in this schematic at no. 25:

http://www.suzukipartshouse.com/oemparts/a/suz/50d3efeef8700230d8b4b7c4/carburetor

But, I see it's called a jet needle on some other schematics and assigned part no. 09494-00181, see no. 21 in this schematic:

http://www.megazip.net/zapchasti-dl...-n-n-723042#g11501713/carburetor/il-270358434

the -00181 part seems to be available but I want to make sure it's the right fit. Also, if I do one should I replace both or will it not matter? Thanks much!

It's the needle jet, they are confusing you by doing the last name first thing. The jet needle is actually the needle that goes inside the jet, the two of them together control how much fuel goes in under partial throttle. The jet is designed to work with the needle, hence the name.

So what you want is a Y6 needle jet. If you can't get a Y6, get the Y7, it was used in GS 650s so you should be able to find one. Get two of them since they are a little richer get two of them, that way both cylinders will be the same, you can adjust the needle height if necessary to tune it.
Someplace like Sudco should have the Y6.

To make things tougher some parts places use their own numbers instead of Suzuki numbers, just to confuse us.

Thanks for the help and the heads up - I was pretty confused with different schematics calling the same parts differnt names and assigning different numbers. I'm going to look around for a Y6 and will grab a couple of Y7s if I have to.

Thanks a a lot for your help.

After a few hours looking at schematics and calling some vendors it seems like the needle jet is a Y-6 but what series number should I get? I found some online but they don't look like the part I have (different shapes and sometimes no perforations along the cylinder). I see that it's the same part in the 81-82 450s but since they've discontinued the part it's impossible to locate. One vendor said it had been superseded by a different part no which appears to refer to the needle jet from the 78 gs400s. But the fiches suggest the 78 gs400s did not have a Y-6 but a Y-0, which probably won't work.

Does anyone one on the forum have some old carbs from any of the following:
