    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Guy's.
I have not had my GS650G Katana for very long,a month.
The throttle is very sensetive when rolling off & on,is this normal, it feel's just like chain snatch,any ideas before I pull it apart.

With the bike on the centerstand and in gear, check the drive train free play. it is normal for the rear wheel to be moved up to 1/2 a revolution
 
In any gear my rear wheel freeplay is about 2-3 inches at the tyre. Wouldn't 1/2 turn be way too much?

A carb balance and tuneup could make a big difference. Throttle control on shafties can be agricultural when the motor's not running just so.
 
Vacuum carbs are MUCH more sensitive to throttle input then purely mechanical carbs. My 650G is the same way.
 
Correct about CV carbs. The way to control this snatch at low speeds is to give the engine some rpm's to smooth out its power pulses. At the same time, use the clutch to control how much forward motion the bike receives from the engine.

In other words, use the clutch's friction point and let it slip to achieve the desired smoothness.

Carby's are balanced,that was the first thing I looked at.
I have 2 1/2 in of slack at the weel when in gear.

You are saying you have > 2 1/2 in of slack < in the chain?
Or the wheel will move forward and back that much?

Normal tension ( slack ) in chain is 7/8" up & down.

Yep, that's about the same as my 850.

To expand on Nick's point - sometimes I just have a day when coordination goes out the window and the drive train snatches when throttling out of a corner no matter how hard I try to stop it. Gets even worse if there's an attractive female audience.....

Bad tanks of fuel don't help either.
 
I have the ssame issue some days. It's especially bad if I decide to ride without gloves on. You can be sure I'll stall it at least once that day when leaving stop lights.
