A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

trying to get the beast out when put away it run like a scared rabbit and now with fresh oil new plugs timing set it will only fire on 3,4 only im running pods and dyna ignition the only thing i can think of is the coils but how can that be when coil 1 fires 1and 4 and coil 2 fires 2,3 any help ideas etc would be appreciated thx in advance

I'd check for fuel and spark.
Pull each of the plugs one at a time, ground them against the block and make sure each of them fire. Double check the spark plug gaps to make sure they're in spec.
Double check the model number of the plug too. A friend of mine picked up some Champions for his truck and asked me to put them in. The were the right package, but the actual plug in the sealed package was the wrong model so it can happen.

When was the last time the carbs were cleaned? I've heard friends that had gas turn to sludge over the winter so you can try to drain the float bowls and see what the gas looks like coming out of there and maybe go from there. You might need to pull the carbs and give them a good cleaning following the guidelines on BikeCliff's website.

re your problem

re your problem

Kind of hard to say since you didn't put in the Bike type or size or year but I would guess your carbs anytime that a bike has been sitting and the plugs have spark. More details would be helpful.

if you know 3 and 4 are firing (pipes are hot?) then both coils are firing which means eitehr the other ignition wires are not connected or bad wires. swap wires beteen 1 and 4 as well as 2 and 3 and see if it changes.

help

sorry guys its a 79 gs 750when i do the ground thing on 1,2 i get a weak spark the gaps are good the plugs are right but i will have to check the carbs and see what comes out

Have you spent some time cleaning up all the grounds? ALL OF THEM?

That goes for every other wire connection on these bikes as well. Buy a tube of dielectric grease, some solder flux/cleaner and a cumfy stool and get to work. ;)

I think it would be useful to the board, if you post your conclusions as to what ends up being the problem (assuming and we hope you get it fixed).

Next time some strange symptoms occur it might help someone else diagnose their problems.

... when put away it run like a scared rabbit
Here is the BEST clue. Just like a lot of For Sale ads, "ran well when parked". OK, give us one more clue: how long ago did you park it? Since you are in Toronto, I'm guessing that it was put up last fall and you are just now getting it going. Most likely would be a GOOD carb cleaning, followed by installation of new o-rings and a vacuum sync.

.

I'm also guessing that it was abandoned on the kickstand for at least a few months, and the "downhill" carbs therefore got the most clogged.

Clean 'em.

ive cleaned the carbs and did the coil mod but the spark seems to be very weak so im trying to locate a set of coils up here in the great white north to see if that solves my problem will keep you all posted and thx for the ideas

Buy a lot of parts, it's much better for the economy than effective troubleshooting.
