A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey mate, now that looks familiar!

If you haven't downloaded the Clymer and Haynes manuals from BassCliff's site yet, get to it! There's also a seller on eBay eClassic Bike that will sell you a factory reproduction manual for about $US30 plus shipping from NZ that's well worth it.

There are ignitor tests in there that you need to do.

These old 450's are prone to failing ignitors due to age, and there's a few current alternatives.

Firstly, you can hunt down a used one on eBay, but they tend to be expensive for what they are (another 30 year old ignitor in who knows what state).

Next up, you can build a replacement following Kokar's thread on here: http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?t=182719

Next, you can buy a genuine new OEM one for about $US500.

And, finally, you can go the unofficial Dynatek DS3-3C route which isn't officially supported by Dynatek (yet) for our particular models but is an excellent upgrade and includes a set of coils as well which you need to run. You'll need a set of their silicon HT leads to go with it too. I believe Serco at Capalaba is our local reseller here.

However, having said all that, you need to test it first as it might not be the ignitor that's failed, it could be fuse, signal generator (the bit you have the photo of), coils, spark plug leads... a whole heap of stuff in other words.

Feel free to have a look through my ignitor thread in my sig. below too to see what pain I've been through, it might help somewhat...

No worries mate.

Yeah for some reason I have him saved in my saved sellers list on eBay but I'm not sure why... must've had something I had my eye on at some point.

Hopefully you get her sorted soon!

We're gonna havta organise a Brissie GSR run once everyone's got their bikes on the road as there's a fair few of us around the shop now...
