    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you do with you gauges...i delete the big light center thing out of mine and made my own smaller one...but im getting tired of this look...

anyone have a center mounted speedo? or anything neat

We were going to do one of those all-in-one gauges on my buddy's kz440 cafe build.

I prefer the dual gauge look myself.
 
I bought an Acewell gauge for my build, it was a little pricey but honestly not much more then the mini gauges Dime City sells. I've read that they don't last all that long and it's cheaper then replacing them twice ($60 per mini vs $199 for Acewell).

I made a little bracket for mine, it takes the place where the key used to go but you get the idea.
 
I bought a box of random speedos and fabbed the oem mount to mount the best of the bunch.
No tach.

All very good ideas. I was thinking of using a spare gauge set I had from my 65082 Maxim, till I remembered it only has an 85 mph speedo.
 
I have the mini gauges that DCC sells, but the speedo failed after a year or so, so heed the prior post. On my second speedo now because I could not find a different mini gauge that I liked.

After my experience with DCC with trying to purchase a second speedo, I cannot recommend them as a vendor (see my Buyer Review thread for details). I found the same speedo on eBay/Amazon.

Make sure it is a 2240/60 and not a 2:1. If you aren't sure, look for the label on the back of the unit (or ask the seller if there is not a pic). It should say "M = 2.1" not "M=2,0." AMHIK :mad:

The all-in-one units like the Acewell are functionally cool, but they are a bit too modern looking for a cafe IMO. When I tried to find something else in a small gauge, they were either too spendy or came off a random bike with xxx miles on the odometer, etc. Some were both (i.e., pricey and used).

Made my own little mounting bracket, bought the dials from Modern Motorcycle Co in Collingwood Victoria (Australia).

If I could afford it I would get this for my next build. It's from Motogadget in Germany. It looks beautiful and it's tiny:

I don't have a picture handy, but I bought a fiberglass bucket from RocCityCafe, cut a hole in it, and mounted the original speedo in it. The bucket is made to be a little bit longer than stock, so there was some room to drop the speedo (and cable) inside.
 
Anybody running a cafe style headlight fairing? I'm thinking of going with one. I don't see them all that often on the modern style cafe bikes, but I'm also kinda shooting for the 80's Mad Max look.
 
Like the Emgo / Viper fairing? I had one for a little while but couldn't stand it. They are inexpensive for a reason......

Check out some of the quarter fairings at Airtech - I ended up putting an 83 Katana fairing on my GR and like it.
 
So apart from what I would imagine is thin fiberglass, what are the drawbacks of a cheap fairing like this? Doesn't seem like there's much there to go wrong. Is it just poor craftsmanship?

They're not glass, they're plastic and it's thin, light material and really flimsy. The screens are particularly depressing. I had one on one of my RD's back in the day.. I picked one up(physically - not bought) at a shop recently and they've gotten worse. Airtech makes some decent unpainted vintage fairings.
 
Meier makes a nice little fairing, good quality. It keeps the wind off your torso a little bit.
