    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i'/m in the process of attempting to fab a set of rear sets for a 1981 gs650gl and i just uploaded the pics of todays progress onto my profile if anyone is attempting the same and wants to take a look
if any body has any tips or suggestions that wouldn't hurt either

there's still a decent bit of work to be done on them and i'm not sure how well they're going to work yet but think it should do the trick and be something a little different, after all it is gonna be a cafe-ish
 
ive seen guys use modern rearsets and make plates to bolt them up to the holes already in that area on your bike. but never a completely homemade setup. im interested.
 
originally was thinkin i'ld buy most the stuff i needed for this project but money is REALLY tight right now and i figured that if i could make a sit of forward controls for my 82 gs650 then there should be no reason i couldn't do rear sets for this one... besides all my friends joke about my shed being "FU*k IT CUSTOMS" named after my 82 of course so i'ld hate to dissapoint and show up to the local haunts on something less than one of a kind, plus they wouldn't believe i built it if most my mods came out of a box lol

I made set for my bike also. Mine are only slightly farther back than stock. I ended up cutting the brake lever short to position it right, and I would not highly recommend that. The braking force on the rear is less than stock, but for me, I don't really mind since we should brake about 70% front anyway. Its just strange putting as much force on the rears. I cnc'd the brackets and bought the pegs. On the shifter side, I used a shifter linkage from some other bike, I forget which. Good luck with yours. If I did mine over again, I would build a curved brake lever to give it a bit more leverage.

yea, i learned about the length and curve in the brake pedal when i built my forward controls on FU*K IT (my chop). the original design worked, i guess, but i have since modified the design a bit to include a longer pedal and a different peg position. this stole back much of my lost lean through the curves and brakeing power with out scraping them and starting over (that's the best part for cheap lazy guys like me).

was thinkin i may have to buy a linkage kit from like tcbros or some body just for the swivel joints but i may have somethin up my sleeve, we'll see how it all works out...
 
so i got the rear sets mounted and test road the bike today. the stock suspension has got to go. the controls work fairly well. i'll have to do somethin bout the rear pegs for a passenger eventually. over all tho, i don't think it turned out bad for a rookie with a sawzall, welder, angle grinder, and a brain fart. i'll post some pics after they get painted... when ever that may be, probably do em more justice lol
 
and here's a shot of the brake side. may leave it open, may paint it black. all depends on how rat or how proper i decide to go with the build.
 
that peg and shifter look alot cleaner than the ones i made from scratch lol

looks like it'll be real easy to put a cover over that master cylinder too
