    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an '83 1100G with a Windjammer IV. I do more riding in the twisties than I do on the interstates. For the past dozen sets of tires (on several bikes over the years), I've been very happy with Dunlop Sport or Touring Elites on the front and rear. Now that its time to replace the front tire, I'd like to hear from those who have compared Dunlops with another brand. Any and all advice is most appreciated.
 
Tire brands are kind of like different brands of gas. Everyone has their personal favorite. If the Dunlops do what you need , stay with'em. Me, I like Metzelers on both my streetbikes.

I like Michelin Macadam.
 
Go with what you like..

I have tried many tires over the years, but they keep on changing! For the front I did run a BT45 battlax, grippy but a bit suspect with a heavy bike (it looked like it came off a racetrack even at normal road speeds!) so not for you..

Presently I run a metzler Me33 - excellent street tyre, great in the wet, very good steering, very confidence inspiring. The Michelin macadam was going to be my other choice.

I run BT45 Battlaxes front and back. The front gets feathered quicker than I would have thought normal. I haven't thought of it being because of the heavy bike.

The tyre gripped really well, the wear pattern was not that good (not as directionally stable as it got older). A specialist bike tyre place said the BT45 (at least in that size) did not suit the heavier bike, even tho technically the tyre load rating is no different to the ME33. The biggest difference I note, apart from the ME33 looks like it will last a lot longer!) is that the steering and road feel of the ME33 is fantastic! feels like it is on rails....I have found the GS likes a more directional tyre

Feathering can also result from suspension setup, as the tyre does work that the suspension should. I have not (yet!) changed suspension setup between the BT45 and ME33
 
I'll have to keep of copy of this thread for when I come to change the front. It's done less than 10,000ks so far. I put the rear on to match the front as the previous battlax tyre had been superseded.

Hey Saaz, I was nearly down your way recently. My mother lives in Hughes and I was to visit, but the trip got cancelled when something got in the way. then I nearly made it to the Snowy Ride, staying there Friday night, but work got in the way for the whole weekend. Someday....
