A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

how are these new?

it is #9 in this picture

are they rubber or are they a plastic piece? Ive got one busted one and they all feel like hardened plastic, or like how the old o-rings feel...

I just want my bike to be done right and not half-assed.

they are rubber i believe ---they just turn hard when old--probably could just get a grommet from hardware store that is the right size

alright... mine are almost plastic in feel... I just didnt want to get something then not be able to replace it. you say any rubber grommet would work... well if its the right size at least?

best to get the oem ones so you're safe in the knowledge your covers aren't gonna fall off at an inopportune moment imo. mine were only a few ? each from suzuki if i recall

Hi,

I just ordered new rubber parts to hold my side covers. They are much better than the 30 year old hard rubber parts. No more rattling! :)

To prevent breaking a cover I like to put a little grease or vasoline so ya dont have to use so much pressure to put the covers on and off.
BUy new OEM, ya wont regret it.

Have to be extra careful when buying cushions, even OEM. I bought some for my '82GS1100EZ, there was a revised part number, no big deal, I got them and they were smaller than the originals, I did break a tab with one of the new ones, I kept the old ones and am gorilla glueing the torn edges back together in hopes I can re-use them. After that I'll concentrate on fixing that broken tab.
I use grease, oil, anything I can thats slippery, vaseline works well. I really take my time removing those covers, and still I broke one.
Can't understand why Suzuki didn't use something like on the GS1000e, two holes
on the cover that the frame fits in and one screw to secure the cover. Simple yet durable.

Are the parts on the pages like the one I posted Suzuki equipment? Or at least OEM?

I dont really think this is repairable, and even if I did, I dont think I would trust it for very long....:o

BassCliff: your bike is beautiful

Yes, that looks like Suzuki original equipment. I got mine from partshark.com for $1.73 each. It's the same part on my bike (part# 09320-08018).

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Alright. Partshark was where I was looking, but their link would just go to the top page so I used Chaparral's.

Thank you very much for your answers everybody.
