    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

how clean spark plugs?

Need to do plug chops on my bike, that means cleaning my spark plugs. My dad always said use sand paper/wire brush, and wd-40.. but that wa for our lawn mower. Suzie is a little pickier. Any advice? Thanks.
 
A much wiser man than I, who has been doing these motors for way longer than me, told me once those electrodes are glazed with gas, they'll never come truely clean. Dunno if thats true or not, but the guy knows his stuff and doesnt usually talk about stuff he DOESNT know. So i tend to trust him. Besides, whats a set of plugs cost?? 10 bucks? If you need to do more than three or four chops for one area or two, you're probably too far from needing to do chops..
 
I use a handy device called a Visa debit card to purchase fresh and clean new plugs from the local Advance or Napa auto parts store.

For a buck eighty nine each, cleaning plugs ain't worth the time it takes.

I use a wideband. Initial cost: $300. Not having to do plug chops ever again: priceless.

George you're going to convince me that I need to put this set up together... After that, you'll have to convince ROSE that I need to put this set up together... ;):D
 
I had a buddy who had a stock car running methanol and an old accel dual point distributor. He was constantly changing plugs and points. Funny thing was he would never throw away the old ones, he had a box full of the old parts! Not sure what the reasoniong was.
I agree if you are close enough to right to be doing chops buy a few sets of plugs and change each time. Keep the old ones and you should never have to buy plugs again for that engine. The used ones are fine for a tune up down the road.

Actually, I work cheap for friends (dinner, drinks, etc.). I am currently swamped with the GPz, but when I get it on the road, we can talk. I can show you the ropes, and you can decide whether or not it is worth it for you.

Right you are, madam. Used the world over by serious hot rodders and tuners.
I've even used it on Brian's Toyota (along with my data collection laptop) to figure out that his fuel injectors were faulty.
The nice thing about the one I use is that it is portable, so I can use it on multiple vehicles, both 2 wheeled and 4.

I was looking at Innovate's LM-1. Seriously considering it, along with their AuxBox. I've always wanted a nice data logging set-up, but never could afford it when I was into cars. What sorta gear are you using?

One of these weekends, you, and maybe Brett if he wants to ride out, should come out for dinner, and drinks.. No dancing. I dont dance. Unless there are A LOT of drinks... and show me the workings of this fancy gadget of yours.. Would save me a lot of time... 3 bikes in the garage, constantly tinkering on another one of someones, makes for a lot of plugchops..
 
I just bought plugs two days ago. I only took two test runs, while trying to determine the correct needle shim setting. There are no more than probably 3-5 miles on them, if that.

I really doubt I need to buy new ones, and at $2.89 a piece, I'd rather not spend the 12$.

The aux box is nice, although a bit pricey. The LM-1 is a good, solid piece, with time-proven quality.
I mainly tune and analyze cars, specifically f-bodies (Camaros and Firebirds). For OBDII cars and trucks, I use Autotap. Very good basic package, allows me to analyze, read and reset fault codes for pretty much any OBDII vehicle. For OBDI f-bodies, I use DataMaster and VEMaster. OBDI was very loosely defined, so I can't work on other makes. You can purchase really expensive gear that will work with everything, but I never saw the need.

Where are you buying them? Thats a buck more than I pay at Autozone or Advanced.
