    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Does anyone else have an inaccurate fuel gauge? Mine seems to work just fine when the bike is parked and not running, but turn it on and it drops to half the correct amount. I thought it was the fuel level sender until I changed the tank with an almost new one and had the same results.
 
The fuel sender is just a variable resistor. You may have something in the circuit that is adding resistance in series with it, thus causing the false reading. Check the wires going to tank to make sure you have good clean connections. You most likely will have connections close to the tank and also close to the indicator on the dash.

Mine is useless. The needle moves arounbd a bit is about all it is good for. It never was accurate.

It's a gas....

Mine doesn't do a thing but sit on "empty" when it's shut down...The problem I don't like is that it goes down to "E" when I know, perfectly well, that there's still a couple of gallons of gas left in the tank...I'm having problems fitting a Pingel right now and was hoping to have a "reserve"...I'll let everybody now how it works out. One thing I know for sure is that you can take the sending unit out and bend it so that it registers however you'd like it to...just remember when "empty" really means "empty". :roll: :roll: :roll:
 
mines useless as well.....oops just figured out why. NO gas.... damn those carbs!!!!
 
mine works good, full is full, and empty is empty, there is some variance in between, sometimes it will hit reserve at 1/4, some times at 1/8.

Inside the guage housing there is a little resistor that brings the effective voltage to the guage back to about 5 volts. This is so the guage shows the same fual level when the battery is down on charge.

It sounds like that resistor might be on the way out, or already gone. The same resistor also works in the oil temp guage on certain models. If you have an oil temp guage and it is also playing up, then you probably have your answer.

Other possibilities are the old Suzuki Scourge - dirty connectors. Check 'em again, and again, and..... :-)

On my S, the fuel guage is pretty accurate. The clock works perfect, now the oil temp guage......has never worked.
I think when the oil cooler was plumbed in it went away......

mine works great, remove cap, move bike side to side listening for gushing sounds. Hasn't failed me yet.

my gauge in my E model worked good, but the ES is awful. it shoots up to full when the tank is almost empty then as i ride it slowly comes back down........................... or not..............However I do have my gas mileage figured out . Broken right wrist 42 mpg .healthy right wrist 18 to 42 mpg :wink: :wink:

Dude it's the thing that sits in my Tach housing. You seen it before! And the only gauge I trust is my trip meter! :D
 
My fuel gauge sits on full all the time, I had a quick look at the connections to the tank and they seem to be alright. Any ideas?

I'll second that......was thinking about getting an electronic substitute, anybody add one of those?
 
My fuel guage actuall works well. Shocking as it may be for a fuel guage on a bike. 8O
