    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

How much for a 1979 GS750????

Little help here guys. Today I stopped by a 79' 750 that wasn't for sale. Talked to the lady and she wasn't sure how much to sell for. Details from what I saw: No start, gas tank and seat in good shape, from breather cover to bottom of oil pan looked like it had been sitting in rain and so forth, old brake lines, rusty chain, brittle intake boots. Everything about the engine looked like it needed a "lot" of work. She said it had been sitting for a while and that they were going to sell it. No start so I don't know if anything internal is wrong with it. But it looks really in bad shape, but gas tank and seat look pretty good actually. How much in cash should I offer??? Really appreciate the help guys....
 
Hmmmm..... not having seen it, but from description I'd offer $300 and maybe go as far as $500. I only paid $1000 for a running GS1000.
 
Cool. The duel exhaust isn't so bad. But The whole thing would have to be taken apart to be cleaned/replaced. I bet all the stuff is from 79'. So "NEW" fork springs/seals, brake pads/lines/oil...... Probably going through the whole engine ya know? Thanks

Yeah, I mean even doing the work yourself you're probably looking at a grand to make it a reliable bike, so.... get out as cheap on the front end as possible. At that price(300 to 500) could probably part it out and make money if it turned out the engine was toast.
 
I was just thinking the same thing. I could take part by part and clean it myself (if the engine was toast) and sell it on the GSR or flea-bay. But GSR first:)
 
IF that be the case, hit me up. Im always lookin for pre80 750 parts. Especially tanks and a titled frame.
 
She did mention that her friend put in $1500 into it. Ive had my 850 from top to bottom internally basically replaced or fixed. I could not see where the $1500 would be put into. I am going to offer her $300 cash. I can't go more than that because of the at least $2000 I put into my baby over 6 months or so. But I guess we will see.
 
I overpaid for my '78 ($500 :oops:) in non-running condition. I really took a gamble but it worked out well for me. See before/after pics on my photobucket site below but start at $200...what's the worst that can happen?
 
Very true. $200 cash sounds good. It did crank like three times, but then went dead because of the battery. Everything on that engine looks like it was in water for a long time and the lines look rusted/rotars and so forth. Like I said, the tank and seat were in good condition.
