    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So, found out my 37mm forks came off the bastard child GS750L, 1979... the one-year they made a 37mm fork, with a rear-bolt drain, and a 37x11x50 seal.

UNDER the seal, is a washer. A necessary washer, that unfortunately doesn't exist anymore in the parts manifest on Boulevard, Bike Bandit, or Z1.

I just removed my old seals and those washers are goosed... beyond usable.

They've got a rubberized coating on them, almost a cap to the open end of the seal.

So, what can I do here? Should I look into getting the washers for a 80-81 GS1000L? Or something that has a 37mm leading fork with that part actually listed?

I don't want to keep chasing parts. I've already ordered 3 sets of seals that are all wrong, because of one dimension or another due to all this confusion.

Any suggestions?
 
This is about an 1/8th of an inch thick 50mm od 37mm id and about 3mm high. Steel washer with a coated bottom and inside. It is so far out of round I cant straighten it.
 
Yea ive looked. the gs850l has a seal but they had 35mm forks... so thats out.
 
Try your local dealer..one in my area still shows it available on their parts finder. Part no. 51168-45200 at $1.77 Ea. if I'm looking att he right thing.
 
:oops:My apologies for misunderstanding the question!!! I was confused by "with a rear-bolt drain, and a 37x11x50 seal" thinking you needed something special for the bolt drain, when you are talking about the main seal on the sliding tube. Talk about being an idiot!

It looks like you mean the part labelled #5 in the diagram below? That doesn't look like a flat washer.

Z1 shows the seal itself fits the following bikes
For 37mm diameter forks - fits the following: Honda CMX450 CX500TC FT500 VF500 CB550SC CB650SC (82) CX650T GL650 VF700 (84) VFR700 VF700S CB750F (81-82) CB750SC VF750 (82-83) VFR750 VF750S CB900C CR80 (96-02) CRF230 NX250 XR250R XL500 (82) XR500 (81-82)

Given that most Japanese bikes use Showa forks, chances are that one of these bikes will have the part you need.

Again, my apologies for being such an idiot.

Please post a picture of the destroyed "washer" and one of the good seals.

Is the seal itself a standard spring energized ("spring-loaded") seal? Or does the destroyed washer have something to do with making it seal?
Is it the same as the seal you took out?
