    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I don't know what I did?

I replaced the brushes in my wifes scooter starter and put it back in, 8O IT'S RUNNING THE WRONG DIRECTION :!: :!:
OK, take it out again, check did I screw up the wiring when I put in the brushes, no, can only be done one way. Put it back together and put it back in the scooter.
=D> Now it turns the right direction. What the H is up with that??
Apart from take it out open it and put it back in, I didn't change anything :!:

You must have two wires switched somewhere...You don't need to polarize these starters...at least I've never seen it done on a motorcycle.

:) Did the motor start? I've heard that 2-strokes can backfire and start up in the wrong direction. :)

Cheers, Steve

Now I know!!

Now I know!!

After talking to the neighbor who is one of those electrical engineer types, he informed me that if the magnets in the housing are not in the original orientation, the motor will run in reverse. I must have rotated the housing while putting it back together the first time, then when I took it apart the second time I put it back the correct way. 8)

I would have sworn that the housing is made in such a way it prevented that.

On the old two-stroke Bond three wheel car thats how they got reverse!
True, you stopped the engine, operated a control that changed the timing then restarted it, Bingo! - reverse complete with 3 speeds!
I wonder why they weren't very popular?

I had a 175 Bultaco for a while, and every once in a while when I kick-started it it would run backwards. It was disconcerting to put it in first and chug off down the road in the wrong direction.

that'd be fun to get it started, and hit the throttle and go backwards! 8O

Wonder what an endo would be then? And now a wheelie would be imposible! lol

Her scooter starter housing is a steel tube with magnets mounted inside and a hole in the end housing a roller bearing. There are no keyways, notches or other aligning marks, just two bolt holes that can be put 180 degrees apart.

That explains it! Probably best to use a scribe next time.
