    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My battery keeps going dead. Should there be any continuity between the positive side of my starter cylinoid and the frame of the the bike? I currenly have that.
 
You have 2 posts on your solenoid. One goes to the battery. The other goes to the starter. A couple of questions:
Which post are you saying shows continuity to ground?
Is either cable connected (or both) when you run this test?
 
The small wire on the soloniod will have a reading to ground thru the relay, Have you checked the charging circuit ??
 
No but that is where I think I am headed. I have never checked a charging system apart from just knowing it works or does not. Not really sure how to do it.

No.

Try disconnecting the R/R red wire, and test again.


Which bike?

I am really puzzled here. GSer stated the following:

This cannot be accurate data since this means a direct short and an onsuing fire. Making any sort of recommendations based on this data is futile. GSer, please understand, I am not getting on your case. It is merely that we must have accurate data in order to offer accurate suggestions.
To clarify; Electrically, there cannot be continuity between that post and the frame. You need to go back repeat. Best of luck.

George, I was a bit puzzled also.
But then figured he said "continuity", did not say "direct short", said "continuity" but didnt say how much. YEs, it should be open, no continuity. But a few thousand ohms would drain battery in a day or two.

I am quessing a problem with R/R, so if disconnect that.....
Next possibilty, although remote, would be internal problem in soloenoid.

I also suspect that is not charging, but that is not what OP asked.

We can help this guy out.

Dave, I agree with all your points, namely:
We can help GSer out, no doubt (hey, that rhymes)
The fact that his system is most likely not charging is a separate issue
We are not certain what "continuity" means to GSer.
Being a literal person, to me that means that when I put my multimeter in continuity mode it buzzes. However, you have a valid point that to someone else it may have a different meaning. I am merely suggesting that we get clarification on this point.
And you have a valid point; if it is showing 100 kOhm with the R/R connected and infinity (open, most meters now show 1 ) with it disconnected, we have peeled away another layer of the onion.
