    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Identify This Wire - Green Blue Tracer -

1982 GS1100E

I am hunting some electrical issues under a different post but can not find the purpose of this Green/Blue wire which has what looks have a diode on it and is connected directly to my battery positive (+). (see picture)

The wiring diagrams I have found are not definative but it looks as though this wire should be on the negative pole of the battery. The bike arrived to me with this wire on the positive. Can anyone verify the purpose and placement of this wire for me? Also can the diode be replaced it appears to be in poor condition at the point of contact with the wire.

Not completely sure, I'm guessing it's the wire that feeds the "check panel" in the gage set, warning of a bad battery or perhaps connects to a voltmeter? I'm not familiar with the '82 dash...

My '81 had a funky wire like that, but I removed it & pulled the "idiot light" bulb in the panel.

I think you're right too, it looks like it's conneted to the neg side.
 
From the photo, it appears to be a resistor.
If the colors are Yellow-Violet-Red-Gold,,.. it would imply a 4700 ohm resistor (5%).
Might be a Sense Wire, with such a low current pass through.
A better photo of the Diode/Resistor would help.

It looks just like the sense wire on my '85 1150. I believe it can be connected directly to the neg terminal as well. I'm not the strongest electrician so maybe someone on here can confirm or call out my BS. :-)

This chart is generally applicable in most situations but certain models can vary. Check your wiring diagram to be sure.

So I have looked through the majority of the wiring diagrams with no clear answer on what this wire feeds.

The wiring diagram for GS1100 on Bike Cliffs website shows this wiring coming from the 'Check Panel Control Unit' directly to a resistor or diode and to the battery negative pole.

What would be really helpful is if someone can verify if they have a green/blue tracer wire connected to their '82 GS1100 battery negative. Like I said I got this bike with this wire connected to the positive and Im hesitant to switch it over without confirmation.

On the resistor/diode. It appears to be yellow/red/light blue/blue. Does anyone have any luck in changing these out. The connection on this is sub-standard.
