A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 81 GS450 L. CV carbs. It will get "Stuck" around 3 K then after 10 seconds it dips to 2 K but will not return back to 1,100 unless I blip the throttle a little bit. I have messed with the idle screws no difference. And I did check for air leaks. But I am pretty sure there is none because it idles at 1,100 just fine. I did also swap the CV slides. Here is a link to the vid I took tonight. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s37UB9_RWoY Thanks!

Where are the mixture screws set? Did you sync the carbs yet? These items were mentioned in your last thread but I didn't see your response. It's best to stay with one thread instead of starting several on the same topic, that way we know what's been done already.

Alright, sorry about that. But yes they are synched. The screws are at 1 1/4 right now I did turn them out 1 turn and it makes no difference.

Try 2.5 turns like I suggested in your other thread.

Could be air leak then. Did you replace the intake boot O-rings? Spraying stuff around the boots is an unreliable to check for leaks in case you've tried that. Also, make sure to ride the bike and then judge the carbs tuning. Blipping the throttle on a cold engine is not the best way.

Nope I haven't. How could it be an air leak if it idles fine some of the time?

could it not be mechanical binding in the throttle spring?

Those over redline blips are fun.

It sure could. How would you test that? The throttle snaps back pretty quick.

You should be able to see it.
Look for a break in the spring. That would cause it to load up and maybe bind then release.

I will check. Could I move the throttle a few times and try to push the part the cable connects to down?

I am assuming your spring is a winding around the throttle shaft.
I was alos thinking of an old snowmobile carb and my bike.
I do not really know what the springs on yors would look like.

Nope I haven't. How could it be an air leak if it idles fine some of the time?

Not sure, but it seems like a lean mixture issue. The O-rings should be replaced regardless, unless you know for a fact that they have been replaced recently.

Yup they do need to be changed. Where is a good place to get them?

What about the auto advance. I did check it out and there was a little free play in the weights that fly out. I did lube that up really good too.

I think its an air leak now. I have new O rings on the way. would it be a bad idea to keep riding it?
