    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Idles bad

I have a 1977 gs750 and i cant get it to idle below 2000 rpms without it dieing out. i mess with the idle screw and it either idles at 3000 rpms or goes down to 1800 at which point it start to die and stall. Any tips, oh yeah i have pod filters and straight pipes and not sure if the guy who put them on before i bought the bike rejetted it. (could that be the problem?)
 
In a word YES You need to check the jets to see what is in it

ok i checked the jets and they were 100 and 25 so i changed them to main jet: 115 and pilot jet 17.5. it still wants to stay at 3000 rpms and wont stay under that. any tips?
 
Ok You may have a vacuum leak Check the intake rubber boots / O rings, spray them with liquid I use windex/409 cleaner. DO you have the petcock vacuum connection hooked up (#3 carb) & Make sure the choke linkage is turning off completely
 
i checked all those and i think it may be that one carb is running extra lean. do you think that could be it? Oh and the top speed on my bike (1977 GS750) is only like 100mph is this normal?
 
Is your bike idling correct now? If so how did you fix it. Mine idles at 5000 rpm without choke and with the idle screw all the way out.
I don't know how to fix this and perhaps you can help me understand what the hell is going on with my bike.

Re: sync the carbs if still not having any luck You may have to remove the carbs and do a mechanical sync first If they are WAY out of adjustment
 
I think that I have my pilot screws (ones with the caps over em) too far out. Dynojet said to turn them 5 turns out. I guess that would affect the idle speed if the mixture is too rich. I'm going to recheck my float level and needle-seat o-ring and report back.

Do you have enough slack on your throttle cable?
 
Yes. I believe I do but I will recheck them again. I could have adjusted them too tight when I ptu the throttle cable back on the bike.
Actually...you know what? I think that may be the problem!
I had to change the settings on it to get the carbs back on the bike and the cable back in the little holder thingy. If this is the problem I'm going to smack myself with some rebar.
I adjusted the idle screw all the way out. If the throttle cable is holding the throttle assembly too tight of course its not going to touch the idle adjustment screw!!! Eureka! THANK YOU!!!!!
Time to bust out the flashLight and check this...
