A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ignition switch question 77 GS400X

77 GS400X, I need an ignition switch. The actual part number is 37110-31017, and it looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Main-Ig...00-GT185-T250-Suzuki-Part-E0097-/290801115978

That's a lot of money for a very basic switch, so I started browsing through other switches. I discovered this: 37110-25318 which looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Suzuki-TS185-77-79-Ignition-Switch-w-Keys-37110-25318-/170856655467

Any ideas about what would be different about these two, and why I couldn't just save $60 and get the cheap aftermarket one? The only thing I can see is that the wires in the plastic harness may be in different positions (but that should be easily dealt with).

One possible (major) difference between the two switches:

The first one (the one for your 400) likely has a PARK position to lock the forks and turn on the tail light.
That requires some different-than-normal wiring due to the way the switch works internally.

The second one (for the TS185) might not have the PARK position, so the tail light wiring will be different.

If you don't mind doing some re-wiring, you can probably get it to work.

.

No fork lock on this. The X model just has a bracket holding the cylinder. I actually have a switch, but there's no key and the harness is chopped off. The only label on the bezel says "off."
