I need help this is my last straw. Sorry folks I can't check old posting because I'm on 26.4Kps dialup. It takes way too long.

I had a mechanic tell me my wires and plug caps were crap on my 1982 GS1100GL. He said the wires had to be replaced and he had the trick to do it. I bought the wires from another shop with the plug caps and gave them to him. He used wire splices to install the wire since the OEM is hard wired to the coils. The bike has run like crap since then. I hold it at 80kph (yes this is Canada) and the bike will bog down then take off like a rocket. This continues over and over for as long as I'm at highway speed.

I took the bike back and the shop charged me another $100.00 and claimed to have checked and reset the carbs. This was the best they could do. Still the same. They then told me she was a tired old girl (17,000km?) and I should buy a 1982 Gold Wing 85,000km in her place. I took the bike away and will never darken thier door.

Any suggestions and has anybody had problem with these splices before. The bike was a power house before they screwed around with the wires and now I'm looking at replacing the coil kit just try and get away from the splices.

Getting desparate in Canada

The stock wires are solid core. Did they use the solid core wire & replace the plug caps ? IF new dyna coils are not in the budget, Find some from a late model RF900/Bandit/early GSXR $25 ebay

Find another shop. They sound like wankers that are taking advantage of you.Cheers,Simon.

Check all the above. I would also suggest getting the bike in a dark place or wait until after dark. Fire up the bike and look under the tank and run the rpm up and see if you have a spark leak. Your mechanic may have not spliced the wires with enough insulation and the wires may be shorting out.

I once changed the plugs and wires on a car I had new parts. These were not solid wire. One strand was outside the insulation of one of the plug wires. I saw it sparking to the engine block after dark. Fixed that and the issue went away.

May your issue be as simple.

Hey Rusty: Do I wish I never started down this road. It had some starting problems so I took it to a highly recommended mechanic. The son of the head mech. of a highly reputable dealership. I hate dealerships. Anyways this guy talked the talk, but sure didn't walk the walk with me. I just spoke to the the guy who recommended bozo. He is now looking at the problem and informed me one of the splices was really bad and the wire has now been damaged. By 10:00pm I may have a new coil kit curtousyof e-bay.

I took the bike away from this guy before he could soak me further and now I'm hearing all sorts of reports about him. Not good for a new business.

After tonight I may have a new to me set of coils thanks. It seem even if I wanted new ones from the local dealer here they may not supply them and if they did I would have to leave my first born.

Thanks...CF
