DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok, got my bike running and it was running good. Then I noticed that it wasn't firing on 1 and 4. Done some trouble shooting and the ignitor's the culprit. Anyway, do any of you guys repair your own ignitors ? If so, where do you find those 2SD997 transistors ? Or..... would anyone have an ignitor laying around, that's messed up that will only fire one coil that you might be willing to part with ?

I'm sure those 2SD997 transistors will cross to something, but I've been out of the electronics repair for awhile, and don't have a cross reference book.

Thanks !

you should be able to substitute any power transistor with the same or larger specs...

2SD997 Si npn 200W 250V - 5V 10A 150>C 7MHz 300 80T NEC TO3 High Power High Voltage General Purpose BUX17 2N6341 KT897A
2n6341....

should be others around like nte ecg...

I can dust off the x-ref books next week if you need me to.

rustybronco and posplayr put me on the right track. Im going to try this one if the case style is right. It says it's a substitute for the 2SD997.

The 2SD555 was as well, but the case is different.

The one's thats in my ignitor are in this style of case...

TO-220 case

Yes sir, and after rereading what I've wrote it would appear that I'm dyslexic..lol Nah, just getting old and don't pay attention I guess.

I wrote -2SD997

It's actually - 2SD977
I came up with some very helpful information when typing 2SD977 into the forum search.

:)

I got one if your still looking

I do have a replacement transistor if you need one....I came up with a "replacement" one but it is also discontinued part number--so my supply will only last for a while...

I pin pointed my problem within my ignitior and replaced the faulty part--now it's running on all 4!

shoot me a e-mail and I'll get you hooked up!

I understand that a BU810 is a good replacement for the 2SD977. It has a TO220 case, and is called a "darlington pair" type transistor and can handle slightly higher current than the D977.:)

I have just buzzed out my igniter schematic and still need some values for the diodes and zeners without actually removing them.
The schematic in beta untested format is available for sharing as soon as I have the other details. I also still need to find equivalents for the 2sc945 and 2sc1213 transistors.:-k

Just a word of caution, the components in the non potted ones are covered in a very thin wax like protection. If you clean this off and fit it on the bike you may have a failure due to water etc. This also needs to be renewed after you replace any parts.;)
