A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi everyone !

I am sitting looking at a dead ignitor unit (GS1100ED)
Suzuki do still list the part...unfortunately they want a mortgage for it !!

I have an option of a used ignitor believed to be from a GS1000..part number 32900-49410
Would it be possible to use that ignitor on the 16 valve 1100 ? Has anyone tried ?

Any insights greatfully received..

Thanks,

Eddie.

Well as you may have read, I have been retro fitting an igniter from a 750 into my 83 550. along the way I made a few discoveries and perhaps what I found might help you.

Firstly it would be good to know what year is your bike versus that of the igniter you want to swap in. They should be close. If the igniter is from an older bike, it is important that the signal generator pickup coils are the same. Suzuki used different types and basically you have to match the igniter to its specific sig/gen. The pin outs should also be the same but might be slightly different so you need to match that too. In my case the sig/gens were different and I've had to rework the unit from the 750 to fit the 550.

It is also important to consider the ignition advance curves which are built in to the newer (83 and up) igniters. This information should be available from the respective manuals. Obviously they should be close and likely are in your case but check.

Have you tried to find a used one specifically for your bike? Posted a wanted add here? You might find one and that would be easier than bodging in something slightly different. You could also check the parts fiches on Bike Bandit and see if the igniter from you bike was used on other models then you would know what other models to hunt down.

Good luck with it,
Cheers,
Spyug

My guess is that 32900-49410 ignitor will work on your bike. Most of the ignitors intended to work on bikes with a mechanical advancer will function, although they may not bolt up in the stock location due to changes in the package size and shape.
