A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'll take "What is it?" for $200 Alex.

Hey -

I found this buried in the back of the headlight bucket on my '82 850L when I was moving wires around. This is just as I found it buried with no cover and exposed ends. Looks like it could be a bulb but that doesn't make sense.

What the heck is it? Any ideas?

Paul

Is that all there is, or are there wires on the back side that we can't see?

I don't remember seeing anything like that in my wife's '82 850 or my son's '81 850. :-k

.

that almost looks like the gadget in the speedometer that affects the self-canceling turn signal unit.

lol. unhook it and see what happens!... actually.. bad idea.. just look through the wiring diagram.

Wow, what a piece of engineering! Seriously! As the pulse gets faster, the magnetic switch (that's what it is) stays closed all the time. The turn signal circuit detects the closure and shuts off the flasher. Brilliant! No electronics needed! Just a mag switch! I hope the engineer that came up with this design got a raise!

Next catagory...

Ok - so it's related to the self-canceling turn signals switch. My turn signals do not cancel. Should this be someplace in the speedo and not in the headlight bucket?

Yamaha was actually the first to use the gadget...completely ingenious compared to what the old Hondas use. With these, if the canceler fails your signals still work...on the old Magnas and CB's and such if the canceler failed so this your signals.

yeah it should be inside the speedometer. that fact that it was in your headlight bucket is kind of weird. and if your bike didn't have self-canceling signals even weirder.
