A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

ok I was wondering if someone by any chance new, what wires went to what in the gauges between a 1980 gs1100 e and a 1983 gs1100 ez, from what i see it would be easiet to cut the plugs off of both the guages and swap them, from the 1980 gauges to the 1983 gauges,so the 1983 gauges work with the 1980 wireing harness but in order to do that I need to know what wires from what guages do what *ugh it even sounds miserable. So if any one knew I would be incredably thank full
Thanks Rob

or if by the grace of god someone makes an adapter kit for the two bikes that would be even better

Hey Rob.

You need a wiring diagram from both bikes, and a whole lotta time.

Why not just get a replacement set of the '80 gauges off e-bay? Save a few nights work for ya...

My Haynes manual only shows one wiring diagram for the 1980-1983 GS1100 EZ USA model.

What model is your 1980 bike?

the reason i made the switch was to get the gauges that went up to 140 vs the old 85 guages, my bike is a gs1100 e, the bike these are comming off of I believe is an 83 gs1100 ez? I can get the wire harness from the 83 for another 40 bucks or so, can i just switch the two, I mean will the lights and blinker relays and what not be compatible with the new wire harness?

so a new question would be, How hard is it to swap the whole harness from one bike to the other? Well the connections for the lights and blinkers and what not match up ?

Check the frame at the neck to see if your E is an EZ. My 82 GS1100E is a EZ from the info on the neck. You might be able to swap the connector around if the wires are color coded and match up.
