    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is this the auto-cancel device for the turn signals? All my lights function correctly, except the flashers on the turn signals. They were finicky to begin with, but they've stopped working altogether now. Tested the wires from the hand control and they function all the way to that little black box. Is there a way to test this?

I suspect the the flash relay could be the problem as well, but they don't even begin the blink. (bulbs and running lights work) Can I bypass this device, or at least test it to see if its the problem?

if you was close to me you could stop by and pug one of my boxes in and see if that fixes the problem.
(given its one that i have)

AMAZING! Thanks for welcome mat! I checked out your article (and the rest of your PDF site, VM carb rebuild YES!!!) I wished that pertained to my problem, but I think my issue is pre-flasher relay. The switch from the hand control goes first into a black box, which the Haynes Manual refers to at the Indicator Control Unit. Its Black/Blue wire and Light Green/Black wire on the way in. That control sends a request to the flash relay, which is returned to the ICU (not insane clown posse). Then the signal is passed back to the flashers, via Black wire and Light Green wire. I tested the relay, and signal is passed through it, so I'm assuming that if I were to hit the flasher they'd at least light up, without blinking, but they aren't even beginning the cycle. They don't light up at all, so I blame the ICU, mostly because I'm unsure on how to test it. Any thoughts? I'll take a picture of the nasty thing and post it. Maybe that will help.
 
i have 2 of the boxes your talking about.

78 & 79 models had their own module. Later modules are different. Hard to find a good replacement. Best bet is to convert to a manual system

Indicator Control Unit Sometimes

I restarted this thread as I have a strange problem with the ICU.

Indicator to the left is all right.
Indicator to the right is not OK, the ICU is not working until aprox 30 minutes of ride. :confused:

Hadlebar switch is OK, checked with close the wires directly.
Relay is Ok, as to the left works with no mistake.
All buls and fuses are OK.
I rechanged the batery, to see if it has any coleration with low power, but not.
Engine start, high rev, not works.
But after longer ride from one point it is in operation every time.

Does anyone has similar experience? Need ICU change or can repair?

I'm actually having the exact same problem with mine after getting a replacement on here that worked fine for over a year. My guess is it has to do with the auto canceling function in the box, and I've resigned myself to do the mod that was suggested earlier in the thread. Ultimately building a new wiring harness that eliminate this box and includes a coil relay mod. My advice is to forego the headache and just route the turn signals out of the ICU.
 
Thanks. Actually my ICU has no auto cancelling function. But what is wierd, that one direction is ok and the other is not allways ok.

If I bypass the ICU than I need to connect the 2 wire harness to something "new ICU" do I?
 
Pull the distance counter out of the circuit. The connectors from the Speedometer to the black box are in the headlight. The electrical diagram for the GS1000 is on Basscliff's Website, and shows color codes and connector locations. It can cause your symptoms. The connector to the flasher also goes bad and makes poor contact. Mine stopped working. I jammed it up in between the frame to get it out of my way, while I was trying to figure it out, and it started to work again. I still need to replace the connector. Where I stuffed it just put the right pressure on the connector wires to make better contact. The plug is still bad.
