If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

can anyone tell me if I replace the airbox with K&N individual filters, I have to rejet the carbs? it is the 1982 GS1100E, it has four in one exhaust and it runs very nice, I dont know what it has for jets, but runs good, if it has four in one exhaust, does that automaticly means rejeted?

Hi Dunken, so you think whatever jetting is done is not enough to be able to add pods? and if I have to rejet what stage should I go to?

ard :?:

With a 4 into 1 header and pods you should go with a stage 3 jet kit. If you keep the stock airbox you should go with a stage 1 jet kit.

Do a search on this topic. I recently asked the same question. THere is alot of info in the "Carb Identification" post that Keith Kruase sent me in the Performance Mods forum. My air pods and stage III kit are on the way. Should be here by the end of the week. In the mean time I'm making things look pretty.

If you put on K&N pods, you'll need to re-jet all three circuits. Main, needle and pilot circuits. You'll need a stage 3 kit.
If you stay with just the pipe, it depends on how the pipe flows compared to stock. It needs to be a quality pipe.
If it is a quality pipe, increasing the main jet one full size and adjusting the mixture screws may be enough.

well, looks like I will keep the air box, the bike is running good idles smooth and enormously powerfull. it was worthed to know what is involved in getting four in one and pods. Thank you everyone, and hope you ride safe.

If you put pods on your bike, your chain guard will fall off when you ride with the New England GS riders.

(Inside joke. Ard is friend of mine. We ride together occasionally. My chain guard came off during our last ride together.)

Seriously, keep the air box, if you're happy with the performance of the bike as is.

The Dynajet Stage 3 kit costs around $125.

Then, you'll have to completely disassemble the carbs to install it.

Then, you'll have to re-synchronize the carbs.

Then, you'll have to ride a few times, screw around with the mixture settings a few times, and curse a few times, in order to get good "plug reads" and smooth throttle performance.

Keep the air box. Ride. Be happy!

I took the airbox off my 750 and replaced with pods. There was a lot of screwing around with the carbs jetting dropping needles and all. I have since returned to the airbox it is quieter and there is better low end torque.

It all depends if you like that sort of thing.....I do

I don't suggest doing it buddy. The previous owner put a nice pipe, pods and jet kit on my bike, and while he did an excellent job, it's not perfect. In the 2-3 months I've had the bike, I have had the carbs off 5 times, cleaned them, changed jets, re-changed jets, changed jets again- and it still isn't right.

I am convinced that there isn't a perfect setup for pod filters and jets. If I get the top end to pull like it should- it ends up being to lean. If I get the mid range right- the top end is weak. I have never been able to get rid of the tiny hesitation just off idle. Maybe I just haven't put enough time into this, because I have heard stories of people spending years to really get it right, but this stinks.

Just about the only plus to having the pods is being able to pull the carb rack out in a few minutes. Oh, and they look pretty cool, I guess.

Keep the stock air box my friend.

I will not get pods for the carbs I rather keep my chain on and for the $125 the price of the dyno jets I go out with my body BGK and have a blast of time,  I am thinking riding this weekend if anyone wants to meet me somewhere, what you think BGK, Jethro?

ard
ps. I have another question that if anyone can help me I ll be happier, the gas guage issue that I hve, I checked the tank unit I pluged the the power to it the gauge responded very crisp , but when I ride it viberates, I think the guage needle is bad. Does anyone knows where can I get the fuel gauge?

Looks like we are shooting for meeting this Sunday at that same place in Acton, MA- MotoMart at 10am. There is a thread in the Meetingplace forum about riding this coming Sunday.
