Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Does anyone have a diagram of how to hook up the choke and throttle cable on a GS 850?
Thanks
Gary

Odds are it will only work one way. Keep playing with em, you'll figure it out.
I cant remember putting mine back together so it prolly wasnt an issue.

Hi,

You'll find lots of GS850G lovin' on my website. Have a look at the Air Intake Repair guide.

Download a factory service manual while you're there. :)

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Put the throttle cable on the #3 carb before putting the carbs in the intakes. Pull the throttle cable up and over the Y bracket and tighten it down.
Find the bracket that moves the choke rod in and out. This is where the choke cable goes and the end of the outer cable sleeve gets clamped on the tower over the #2 carb.

Thanks to all who helped, but I still don't have them on yet. I need a diagram to show me how. That's how stupid I am when it comes to working on bikes.

If he has an 82 or newer 850 the choke is on the left bar control. Thumb lever. That set up is a little bit more tricky. Feed the choke cable through the J tube and then it will hook into a little capture on over the number 4 carb. Then another capture needs to be slid back and the cable pinched between it. Hard to explain. Download the manual;)

i just recently went throught the same issue as you...my first look at them was met with a HUH? and then a head scratch...luckely mine were already together so i had a mental picture to reference when i reinstalled them

Hi, Can you help?
I just bought a set of carbs with this J tube thingy on them.
My old carbs did not have this (1982) but had the choke lever in the centre of the bars.
Some advice please on twhat is needed to fit the choke (enrichment) please?

See if this helps helps. the cable goes over the notch in (83) and under the notch in (82), (83) is held against (82) by the spring to prevent it from escaping.

Do I cut the nipple off the end of my existing choke cable then feed it through the J bracket and fix it to No4 carb as per the diagram or are the cables different in some other way?

I cannot get to the other carbs at the moment to compare them!

I'm not sure what you mean by "the nipple". On my cable, the end piece (whatever it's called) slipped through the j bracket. If yours doesn't fit through, it sounds like a different cable. you may have to replace it.

Here's a "before" picture of my choke cable end. It's the little round piece in the circle.
