    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Intake Boot "hose" clamps?

I'm changing out all the rings on my bike with the kit from www.cycleorings.com and I think I've discovered that my intake boot clamps are just exhausted. When I'm tightening them onto the carbs the screws are bottoming out - and potentially not tightening all the way, allowing for some air leakage...

Can I just use the same hose-style clamps that hold on the air filters? Or does the rubber get so hot I'll need to order something fancy and special.

Those jubilee clips are no good - they're too wide and you'll ruin your hoses or they'll keep slipping off the carbs. The proper things are cheap enough to buy.
 
I would not use hose clamps on the intake boots. They present a risk of cutting into the rubber if overtightened.

You can order new intake clamps from Z1 for about $4 apiece. Part No. 09402-60208.
 
Though of course you should maybe also consider replacing the boots themselves - they should be buttery soft. You're lucky - you can still buy them new for your bike.
 
You will be fine with the chrome hose clamps... but beware that over tightening them will cause the little groves to cut into rhe rubber over time. Z1 has them for $20 bucks. Dont try to order them from suzuki.. last time i did the part number was that of plastic handlebar cableties.

Even if they are buttery soft, they can still crack on you. Ask me how I know (and have the clamp part no. at hand for Z1). :mad:
 
The boots are buttery soft and squish easily, I'd love to buy new ones but I am literally out of money. I just spent my last $150 on a new petcock, gas cap, O-rings, gaskets & shims.
