Interchangeable instument panels

Fellas-

Almost time to put the bike away for the winter and start the tear down. I am looking at different things to do for the bike, and was curious about changing my ugly speedo/tach, since the needles wobble, and the speedo stops @ 80mph, which I exceed on the highway.

I have been looking through the styles of gauges that I like most, and found the '80 GS750E cluster to be one of my favorites: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1980...rcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43aa1846e1

Would I have any problems wiring this instrument cluster to my bike? How different would the connections be?

Does anybody have cool looking instrument panels as a good idea to replace mine with on my bike?

You might have to decipher things between the two wiring diagrams, but rewiring gauges is not hard.

I had to rewire a bunch of things when I dropped my stock gauge cluster for mini gauges. That got tricky because I went from left/right turn signal indicators to a single indicator. But you should be close to plug 'n play on this one.

Are there any indicators that differ between these clusters?

I've done it using a different harness than was for my cafe project for a set of gauges. It's not tough even with my limited electrical wiring knowledge. Get a wiring diagram from both your bike and the bike who's gauge set youre using. Usually the connector for the gauges and the connector from the harness will be different, but you can push the pins out of the harness connector and move them where they need to be for the gauge sets connector. Takes a little time but it's much cleaner than chopping and splicing...

I helped a member here install some 750L gauges on his 850G bike. The 750 doesn't have self cancel turn signals, or a side stand indicator light, so he lost those features with the new gauges. We had to cut and splice a some wires and push out terminals on a couple of other connectors. Took an afternoon but we finally got it working.
