A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Intro to carbs?

Hello all.

I am on the road to getting my bike up and running and know for a fact that (when it was moving) it was running lean. Since I am already wrenching on it, I want to fix that fact.

It has pods, and I will be getting a 4-1, so I know I need a stage 3 kit. I have found freshly cleaned and assembled carbs which come with a Stage 3, but not installed.

1) After reviewing the basic carb functionality post in one of the sticky's above, the Stage 3 is just changing out the needles and such, correct? So it would be just getting the box with the carbs and then open up, swap parts out, close it up?

2) Freshly cleaned and assembled carbs doesn't mean tuned. So I need to bench-sync them, then put them on the bike, start it, and sync it again? What is the "sync tool" called and where can I get one in a store? AutoZone had no idea what I was talking about.

3) Are there any Army-proof guides to the above steps? I'm hoping the DynoJet kit comes with decent instructions but since it's not from the company it may not.

Hoping to be back on the road in the next month or so! Thanks all.

Pick up a Morgan Carbtune found at www.carbtune.com as it's the forum favorite and you will use it quite often. Exchange rate will put it around $115 shipped and make sure to get the tool to go with it. You'll want to pick up the metal vacuum port adapters from Z1 as the plastic work but aren't great.

Have you been to Basscliff's site yet (http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff)? You'll find the carb cleaning guides there.

... and make sure to get the tool to go with it.
"Tool"??? :-k

How about "CASE".

OK, the first suggestion left a bit to the imagination. :-k

"Get the Carbtune and the tool to go with it" or something like that.

That tool (which is very helpful) does not come with the Carbtune, and has to be purchased elsewhere. Z1 Enterprises is a good source.

.

Awesome. Got them both, and I am actually getting freshly cleaned carbs since I need the Dynojet Stage 3 anyways. Spend a little more up-front and then this winter I will dig into my old carbs and clean them up to sell.
