A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Afternoon

my name is Doc and I just picked up a GS850L

my dad recently purchased a side car and attached to it was this bike.
Had to take the bike with the side car. So I have another motorcycle.

Hasnt run in about 8 years. I've been reading the carb tutorial on this forum as I have tried to get it running but the cabs are gummed up and the petcock isn't flowing fuel.
ill be doing a mild cafe of the bike. It's in pretty poor cosmetic shape.

Glad to have found this site. Sorry for the crappy pic.

Welcome to the forum (from California)! I guess if you're short on indoor space you can just build an igloo to work in. Enjoy your project.

Wait, what? Bought a sidecar and had to take the bike? That's just funny. I went on a four hundred mile road trip just to get this 850.

Glad you're here, Doc. If this is the other bike, what else do you ride?

thats not quite the whole tale.

When we went to pick it up a price hasn't been set. We knew the package was cheap. We were thinking $500-750

we loaded up and dad went to pay. He got I my van and said "wait.... I need to give him some more money"
dad comes back in a few minutes say he wouldn't take any more money.
cash price ....... $150.
Sidecar is a hitchhiker II. Still has the nubs on the original tire. Maybe 500 miles on it.
GS came with title and keys. Side car will go on my Dads soft tail if we can figure it out

As far as other bikes I just down sized. I had nine bikes up untill December. I had several projects. I'm down to five bikes total.
2000 intruder 1500LC
2000 VFR 800 interceptor
83 virago 920 - cafe project
82 maxim 400
and now the GS

got a line on a gs850L parts bike I'll be chasing down next week.

id post some pics but I have an iPhone. They always get turned upside down or sideways.

Where did you find it. I remember seeing one on my way to the airshow in Oshkosh. It was for sale on the side of the road. Might have been on hwy 21 some where...

Close! But I'm sure this isn't that bike. This one hasn't moved from the garage in years.

Bike was out of endeavor. About fifteen miles south of 21 and 39

Fantastic deal! Good luck with the parts bike. Hope it's as good a deal for you too! Keep it up and you'll be back to nine bikes in no time at all.
Your dad sounds like a good man. Lot of folks would run quick and not offer to verify the price was correct.

The Intruder

Ill try and get some better pics of the GS today Its apart unfortunately.

NOt much to look at in afraid. Engine has been spray bombed. Side covers gone. Seat and luggage rack are well.....not to my tastes and not in good shape. Tank is clean but dented.
I need shorter cables and brakes lines for the dragbars. It's a start.
