Pete, One HD ran all 5 days of the TT and they showed the North West 200 as well.

I'll let you know when it's coming up.

Ooooh nice! Obviouisly I don't go looking at TV guides enough, I'm not used to this whole digital thing yet, and in fact we only got set top boxes during the boxing day sales.

I'll have to get organised with the DVD recorder downstairs :)

Bill, if you want to find out what the circuits are like why don't you come over? and all of the 2011 races are on I have the calender given away by Irish racer magazine(www.irishracer.com)if you want a full list PM me and I'll type them out for you-ok?,what everyone else says is true-I have been (as I've said to Bill in other posts) been following racing here(in Northern Ireland) for over 30 years and I grew up on a course, about 3 days before the first practice session a road sweeper went round to brush up all the debris and cow eerm dung(think that is the politest term ) off the road and any holes were filled in, then every farm was raided for straw bales to put onto the telegraph poles and that was it!!.The best quote was from a racer called Ryan Farquhar(bright orange and black leathers with the no.77 plate)
when the Bush races were starting, someone asked at the club meeting about getting sponsorship and he said "aye start with FP McCann" a local tarmac contractor because the roads were in such a mess!!.That Kieth Amor onboard fottage was shot at my local circuit in Cookstown which is about 7 miles from my house and nearly every year gets me into trouble with my wife as the race is usually run on her birthday and I disappear to it all day, I'm really going to get it in the neck this year as the club have a run that lets you take your bike at legal speeds for 2 laps of the circuit- and it's on our anniversary so instead of the nice meal she was expecting I will be at the circuit. For anyone who is interested the season begins on the 30th of April(cookstown 100) and the last race is on the 11th of September(Killalane).Johnny

I was wondering when you'd show up, Johnny. :)

7 miles from Cookstown eh? Lucky bugger.
I have the full footage of Amor's onboard as well as the last few years of any race I can find.
There's a piece in it where the grass is whipping his helmet and he lifts his head a bit to clear a shrub.

As for the best quote I still think it's hard to go past Guy Martin. "I were comin' over the mountain so fast, I were suckin' the rabbits out of the hedges".

Doh! Not just a ride up the highway?

Johnny, ?YOU MAKE MY MOUTH WATER? I heard that in a movie: Journey to the Center of the Earth.
Should I sell my 3 Suzuki's for a trip like that?:cry: Don't have to think long to know that's how much cash it would take.
Quite a bit of FUN I'm sure, if I rode my favorite bike. Just hangin' around as a pedestrian would be, half.
Lucky you, gettin' the Missus mad at herself for being born on the wrong day.
Bill

Uumm, think that I wasn't clear enough in my last post my wife isn't mad with herself and anyway after 15 years she's used to this situation!.She once asked me jokingly(I think)"what would you say if I told you to give up riding bikes?",my reply was "don't let the door hit you on the arse".Anyway I have worked the perfect strategy-I don't complain about her animals(sheep,7 cats permanantly indoors, etc) so we have the understanding that if I want to go to a race to go to or a classic run she doesn't complain about that and anyway she now has more bikes than I do! he,he.Oh and Bill she thought that what you said was funny as well(at least I think she was laughing!!).Johnny

Nice look at layman's speed?

Nice look at layman's speed?

Hey Leigh!
I like the vid of the warm up laps, we can actually see the circuit. ;) The roar drove my cat away! :p
Killer beautiful place to race! Bummer about the rain, bad weather is always with us.
Bill

I'll dig out some rainy races for you, Bill.
They don't seem to back off much even when all they can see is spray.

Liegh, of course they do,it wouldn't be any fun otherwise!!!,also the Armoy circuit is quite wide in racing terms look up any onboard footage from the Bush races-now that is a tight circuit on most of it you couldn't park a rangerover across the road without being about 6 inches into the hedges on either side( that circuit is only 15 miles from me) I have been round it on my GS/GSX hybrid and never got out of 3rd gear for the 2 laps of the classic run.Johnny

I've been looking for good clips of Bush and Killalane.

All I've found is a bit of phone camera stuff with some bloke's head shoved in the way for most of it.

Amateurs have access to the tracks?

Hey Johnny,
I was wondering if there was a track where beginner racers could ride and learn, and if amateurs had races days on the public road circuits?
Seems like the clubs would only have use of the public roads for a few hours racing. And that the reason why the races are held on public roads is because there are few or no race tracks.
Bill

Bill,
As far as I understand it if you want to race on roads you first get a clubmans licence and if you get a certain amount of top 10 finishes in a season, you apply for a full race licence then the give you an orange vest(like the ones you will see road construction guys wearing) turn up to practice day and go out with everyone else and that is it!!!. There are some small circuits like Kirkistown,Bishopscourt, and Nutt's Corner and one purpose built one near Dublin called Mondello Park but these are just sections of WW2 airfields modified with earth banks to mark the track, a start/finish line, a timing building and VERY basic paddock( unlike the road racing one which is just a field beside the circuit- great fun if it rains).I also have to explian that if you told a road racer to go circuit racing he would look at you as if you had suggested that he prefom an intimate act with a farm animal or his sister!,they really are 2 very different sports they both respect each other but they would never swop what they do- you choose to race on the roads it's as simple as that.hope this helps everyone out there understand a little more about racing here in Ireland.Johnny
