    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Is it clutch slipping that is the problem????

I have posted some curious questions regarding the power on the 750t, just feels a little low on the power side. At bike night last night a friend asked to ride it to see if he could tell, he said it sounded too good at idle for it to be a ring or valve issue. So he went literally 2 minutes and back and said it was the clutch slipping. HuH??? Then he said watch and revved the engine and dumped the clutch and nothing. He said the back tire should have spun but nothing, then said it feels like no more pick up in speed or power between 5000 and 8000 rpm's when riding. I don't know what clutch slipping really means ??? I don't think, because I thought if your clutch was slipping you would feel it actually slipping. Am I a fool???? Can someone explain a little clearer.
 
If it revs too freely after shifting when you really nail the throttle in gear it's slipping. You'll see the tach just jump instead of climbing steadily as the engine revs.
 
You can pull the clutch very easily and look at the disks for wear
 
Mine were at 2.7 mm, that is the lowest servicable limit. The bike was drivable but would break loose if I nailed it on the highway. Since3 I was concerned that I would not be able to accelerate out of trouble I replaced my clutch. The PO was not easy on the clutch, too much feathering out from a stop and he preferred massive downshifting to using the brakes.

I always downshift, always have? :lol:

Check the cable adjustment. On my 750, I can't go by the factory manual adjustments, I have to go by feel. Some times it's tricky for me to get it right.

However, clutch plates are easy and cheap enough to replace.

I'd check the cable adjustment first, then check the discs.
 
Oh, forgot to mention. What type of oil are you using?

I switched to Castrol GTX and started getting some slippage with new discs. I switched back to Shell Rotella T and all is right with the universe again. 8)

Dave, how do you like the Shell Rotella T vs., say, Mobil 1 (red cap)? I 've heard good things about Rotella, and it's cheaper than Mobil 1 at WalMart.

The usual good info from Billy! :D Sometimes the slipping can most easily be seen by having the bike in high gear (4th or 5th) at, say, 3,000 or 3,500 rpms when you whack open the throttle. As Billy says, when the tach needle surges upward, but you aren't really going much faster, that's clutch slip at work.

Love it. I've noticed a couple things. Of course the clutch is loving it. I'm not using as much and it stays cleaner longer. Well, in other words, I could always tell before when my oil needed changed as th clutch and shifting would start giving me signs. My last oil change, I kept waiting and I finally checked my Spread sheet and I had gone 2,500 miles. 8O :oops: :oops:

However, I've not used Mobil 1 so I can't compare. I've used the Penzoil, Valvoline, Castrol and Wally brand. I'm sticking with Rotella.

I am using the walmart brand 20w 50 dino oil. (it was the only 20w50 I could find at the spur of the moment) and I did not want to go synthetic right away because I read so many posts on here about clutch slipping. I tried to check cable but it seems the adjuster nut /bolt at the lever is stripped halfway out so no matter what the adjustment when I pulled the clutch lever it slipped back to where it is not stripped. Guess I'll get another. But I don't know if that is having all that much effect on it.

Simon, how have you been? I took a hiatus from the internet pretty much in general. Since getting moved back to San Antonio there is so much more to keep me occupied.

I have a friend whose son is going to be racing next weekend at Pike's Peak. He'll be racing in Supersport and Formula Extreme. He's only been roadracing about 6 months now and is already capable of qualifying in probably the top 15 or so. This will be his second AMA race. He'll be at Infineon this weekend. He had some prominent people pulling strings to get him a provisional license. He has 4 or 5 years MX experience. At my urging he took up roadracing and there's no looking back. He's already being compared to Colin Edwards. I was going to try to make it up for the race but my wife is having Lasix next weekend so I'll be staying home.
