Is it possible to replace Emgo coil wires?

Hello,

Been having a vibration between around 4000 and 4500 rpm (very frustrating problem). While synching carbs discovered spark plug boots arching. Replaced boots but I think wires are dry rotted. Does anyone know, has anyone tried to replace the spark plug wires on emgo coils?

I just cut back the old hard cable, screwed the new caps on, good as new.

I've replaced HT wire on OEM original coils but not sure what an EMGO coil looks like. Have a picture you can post? That might give some clue...

This is what the HT wire sits on in the OEM coil, just a spike at the bottom of the recess in the coil body when all the goop has been dug out and the old wire removed

Thanks. I clipped the ends of the wires when I replaced the boots.

I don't have a pic just yet but will post as soon as I can. Mean time I found a pic of the same coil I have on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emgo-4-Ohm-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557), but I think these are for points ignition which my ride does not have points! Maybe I've had and have the wrong coils

My oe part number is 33410-47021. The eBay, and perhaps my coils now, are supposed to replace 33410-45012 which are used on non- electronic ignitions. I don't know what tha heck. I'll post a pic as soon as I can.

Just to add, I did have to cut a second time to the No4 lead as this still gave a weak spark, got it back to good internal cores been spot on since.

Hey Chris G thanks for the pic. I got my bike used and the PO had not treated it too kindly. After some research not sure what to do, it appears the coils i have should be used on bikes with points (pre 1980). I wonder what's the difference in coils for electronic ignition versus points? Perhaps others will chime in with some correct fitment experience.

Btw/ The price of the oe coils on suzukipartshouse, partsmonster and other sites, is very interesting :-k. I would consider Chinese replacements if anyone know of any.

One of mine runs points-coils on an aftermarket electronic ignition setup, and the other bike uses CBR1000 coils.
According to Haynes Book of Lies, the points coils are 4 or 5 ohms, electronic ign coils are 3 ohms (or less, istr). I ran the factory EI module on the 4 ohm coils for a while and it worked fine, but found the 3 ohm coils to replace them.
Otoh, the factory ignitor failed eventually, but who knows what caused that - an extra ohm certainly didn't. I suspect the faulty original coils weakened the ignitor, as they were terrible in the rain/damp/slightest hint of moisture.
I also have been considering the Chinese coils, but then my attention was grabbed by Coil-onna-stick devices and am now looking seriously at what might be short enough to fit.

I was just looking at the Emgo catalog and their coils for gs550 are for points! Don't how old the ones I have are or if Emgo ever produced a coil for the gs550 w/elec ignitions. Now I'm wondering how much performance I am missing out on by not having the correct coils?

Grimly I did a little reading on the stick-coils you mentioned. It's a cool idea, just don't know how they could be retrofitted physically and electrically. I'm not that brave.

Z1 sells a Dyna 3ohm coil (DC1-1) but I don't know the correct resistance or how well these perform. Anyone use/know about these or other direct oe replacement?

sorry to hijack the OP's post...has anyone found a source for quality Denso (or similar Japanese-made product) black 7mm solid-core high-tension wires (or bulk) for our bikes? NGK still offers the resistor caps to use with the solid-core wires. i want to use these with my Dyna green 3 ohm coils

I put some of that Z1 wire on the coils for my Kawasaki. It's amazingly soft and compliant compared to the petrified OEM wire (TEC coils).

I ordered 7ft of those put never got around to using it. FYI/ check the site, I believe you should not have more than one, suppression plugs or caps or wires.

Nessim, those those are nice coils. Do you know the specs of those? Do you know if they may fit a gs550 w/electronic ignition? Thanks
