Is this a Supertrapp pipe??

The discs are held in by a long bolt with a flat hook on the end that goes in that plate at the back of the pipe. The end cover has one hole that holds the discs in place with a nut on the long bolt. The disc are the regular Strapp discs with all the holes for the small bolts. Ive had a chrome Supertrapp on a KZ1000 years ago so I know they made them, and it was made the same way. What you choose to believe is up to you I guess, Im just trying to help here. Il send someone the pics if you want.

Woodman, do you have the bolt and end cover???? I could just get disc anywhere. That setup makes sense. I had a Supertrapp on my XR650L, and I could adjust the flow with the amount of disc I used, so this would be cool.

Adjust the flow??? It doesnt work like that all that much man... Jeeeeez:rolleyes:

What do you mean. That is the whole purpose of the Supertrapp disc system, adjustable flow. Besides, it would cover up that ugly bracket at the end of my pipe. :D

It will to a point, but if you think its going to make it BETTER that wide open, its not. IF you think its going to make it quieter than wide open, its not. If anything, it will be a little louder to YOU, and possibly more annoying on long rides... It will also NOT correct for an improper mix, so dont think that either.

Ok, I got your point. Actually, it does not sound bad like it is. But Cafe, do you have photos of the Kerker, I am still interested in the pipe.

I can get you some. I will try and get some up tomorrow man. :)

It's like trival performance pursuit: I am guessing your 4 into 1 exhaust is a S&S or a Kerker. The Kerker's have the exhaust clamp aft of the brake pedal right? I never owned one but I installed my Supertrapp 4/1 black on my 1000 back in 1982 and that ain't it.

PS: Hey Cafe, they were also produced in chrome with the standard megaphone, just double walled chrome as you stated. You never told what your investigation uncovered?

Really? Never ever ever seen one in chrome...I stand corrected.

Oh, yeah. The slip on i have you CANNONT (seemingly) remove the baffle from. I drilled out the rivet on the midpipe, pulled the can off and i just cannot see how it would come out of there..

Yeah there is a clamp just past the foot peg. Wow, the mystery continues. What kinda pipe is this???? The pipe sounds good most of the time, but there is a certain small segment of the rev range to where it just does not sound good. I will usually downshift to get past it. :D

I cannot remove mine either because my megaphone outlet is slightly out of round. I tried removing it when repainting last year with a piece of wood & mallet but decided against it when it wouldn't budge

Some other GSer else explained this about a week ago based on Kevin Cameron's TDC writing or book: Essentially the exhaust power wave in all 4/1's reflects back to some degree and head back up the header in certain RPM ranges. If the wave being reflected back is stronger than the normal exhaust scavenging the result is a flat spot and that "different" sound associated with it. Interestingly even when my GS1000 was factory stock & new it had a slight flat spot right at 3000 rpm as I transitioned off the pilot circuit.

BTW, nice skunk

Interesting, thanks for the info. And thanks for the compliment. I do love this bike. It is not the smoothest, or most refined, but damn, it does have character. :D

I don't think they make them anymore for the GS's that's to bad because it sounds great and looks good.

I think you should know by now that it is NOT a super trapp, I myself have one on my bike and it sounds great even without the disc's... When I got the bike it was missing the disc's. If anyone has some and even the end cap they don't need let me know.

I have an end cap. Discs you can get on ebay or thru dennis kirk... end caps too, but they're not very cheap..

Summit racing carries the complete line of supertrapp mufflers, accessories, and hardware.
