A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

is this normal?

my head light broke out i had 200 miles left since it was day time i found no reason to not continue but when i got home my battery was boiled dry and dead 1983gs1100e refilled and carged battery replaced head light and it seems to be fine

Nope - your battery boiled dry due a to voltage regulator problem. Then, the voltage spiked and blew out your headlight.

You need to test your voltage at the battery at idle and about 3k rpm.

You also need to read the Stator Papers

my head light and bucket were taken out by a rock but i will check

the charging system was designed around the headlight, the headlight has to work to keep the regulator from being over worked. early and european GS had a switch to turn off the headlight, this switch also cut off one leg from the stator so only two legs were being regulated when the headlight was off.

chances are it was over charging to start with and that is what blew the headlight.

so far this is what i have volts across batt at idle 13.8 at 4000 rpm 15.8
pos batt to red wire on r/r .2 now the stator paapers call for the next test to red lead to neg batt black lead to ground on r/r (black w/ white wire) but i dont have this wire i got red ,yellow, white w/red and white w/ blue  does this mean that i have a case ground instead? by the way the head light was taken out by rocks pryer to this issue

the stock original ground used on the Suzuki regulator came out of the regulator and went right to one of the regulator mounting screws.

run a wire from the mounting screw to the battery ground terminal.

if the regulator is not grounded good it can not properly regulate output, this is a common problem. 15.8 volts is way to high, and the manual recommendation of a peak of 15.5 volts is also wrong, the absolute max should not go over 14.5 volts and 14.1 volts is ideal.

my ground was litterly mellted off at the r/r i would venture to guess that this is a good chunk of my issue now i have to get a new r/r and test again thanks for all the help
