    A note to new registrants...
All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Bike sat outside for years. We just bought it a few months ago. Got it all cleaned up inside and out and it ran fine, just rough to start, takes a long time to warm up but after that it hauls..... Got a new battery last week, old one kept going dead so we figured it needed to be replaced. Battery appears to still be fully charged but it won't turn over. It will start if we jump start it with the car but that's no fun. Any thoughts on the problem? The starter maybe?

Sounds like your having the same problem I am... Well sorta. Mine runs fine on a fully charged battery for about 20 or 30 miles and then the battery looses its charge. Check the battery make sure its good and charged. Then get a manual that tells you how to test the stator and rectifier. You can check the GS resources stator files on this problem, but the manual is less confusing.

Re: IT WON'T START!!!!

If the battery is fully charged and it will not turn over on the bike battery, but does turn over and start on a car battery, then there is nothing wrong with the starter. The problem is a bike battery does not have the reserve amperage to overcome the resistance in the electrical wiring, but a car battery does. The starter is not going to draw any more power than it needs regardless of the battery being used. The solution is to take a multimeter and wiring diagram and check all your wiring circuits (particularly ignition and start) and clean all your connectors and terminals.

O teabiscuits and cream! I have to agree with Earl!

Re: IT WON'T START!!!!

Thank you so much! I'll pass it on the the hubby and see what he can do. We just had no idea where to start. With the bike being new to us, we don''t know much yet.
