A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I know I saw a post a little while ago, but I can't find it.

I broke one of the posts that hold the float in place trying to remove the pin for cleaning. Not only did the post break, but the pin is bent bad. I think I read that I could use J B Weld to secure the post, but I don't know what to do about the pin. I was going to use a nail but I am afraid that it will rust and plug up my pilot jet, or make the float stick.

Does anyone have any ideas. I could really use the help.

Thanks

Bones

It's either jb weld or buy another carb...I would try the jb weld first. My only concern would be how well the jb weld will stand up to constant fuel exposure. I don't think it would be a problem but if you want to be sure mix up a little bit, let it cure for a day, and then let it soak in a cup of fuel for a day or two. If it's still hard you should be fine. as for using a nail I would go for it. You could try to find a stainless nail if you want but I really don't think you have to worry much about it rusting out unless you plan on parking the bike in a shed for years with no use. I just rebuilt the carbs on a 1982 GS850 and one of the float pins was a nail that had been in there for who knows how long and it hadn't rusted. Your other option is to hold the pin with some pliers and straighten it out with a hammer. Hope that helps.

JB weld will not withstand being in fuel.
i repaired a float bowl years ago with JB and it lasted a month or so before it got soft and started leaking..
facts are facts.
just buy one single carb used?

JB weld will go soft eventually & the post will break off. There are a few documented ways to fix it & you should be able to buy or get hold of another pin.

I fixed a post recently... I drilled both parts & put a brass rod (hardware store) down inside then cross drilled each side & put a wire staple through the two holes to hold it in place.

Dan :)

Thanks for the information. I will check in the "parts wanted" section for a used carb body.

The one I repaired with the brass pin & staple is still running fine after 4 months.

Yep, I'm with the others and, I've seen it first hand. JB Weld can't do gasoline. It wont hold up.

Which carb do you need? I can check my stash to see if I have one for you.

.

Thanks Steve.

I just got done talking to one of my customers about the carb (I work in a gas station) and he said that he has a complete set of carbs that he is going to give to me.:D

I am so stoked right now.

I will keep you all informed.

Thanks again Steve.

Make sure you get the right carbs. 32mm.
I've had good luck with JB Weld. Build a good bridge up and down the post with the epoxy and let it cure for a few days.
The float pins are really easy to bend back into shape.

Hey guys, I just called JB Weld (1-800-529-3530) and they told me that once the JB Weld cures (24 Hours) it will not soften when left in gasoline. I told her that I would give it a try and let her know how it goes. I just wanted you all to know what the JB Weld company is telling people.

Cheers
