jacking up back of 1983 gs750es

Hi, I would like to raise the back of my bike, so as to allow for a more aggressive riding position. Can anyone hint on how to accomplish this? Can a spacer be put in? If so, what can the spacer be made out of or where can I get one? Thank you.

I had an '83 GS750ES and with that 16" front wheel it steered plenty quick. I even put on a steering damper to slow it down a bit. If you still have the original shock and spring I imagine they're sacked out and causing the rear end to ride too low. Check and see if FOX still makes one for it or if not contact Penske they'll custom make shocks for about anything and they're super quality.

Why not replace the handle bars with some thing lower. I used a pair from a gs 1150. Works perfect.

Don't take this to heart, but when I was younger and we did not have the mono shocks and cool dirt bikes we have today, I would weld new shock mounts to the frame and place more of an angle on the old coil shocks. We called this "laid down shocks". I don't think I would try this on your street bike. If you really want a better ride, I would suggest a better bike. I am using your 750 front end on my 83 1100ESD and this works nice when I did it. It does not come close to running with my GSX.

Now for the real advice. Don't weld the frame!! Don't raise the back!! Keep all your parts as is and drop the front instead. Get a brace on that thing and slide those tubes up into the tree. Don't go very far. Try it in 1/8" increments. If the tubes hit the handle bars, find a junk bike and pull the handle bar caps off it and use them for a spacer. See if you can tell a difference in the ride. Better yet, what don't you like about the ride as is? Do you just think the bike would look cool with the back end up and your head down low?? Or, is there a problem in the corners? If so, what? Maybe just some a different compound would help. Reason I ask is my 1100 sticks real good in the corners. The real problem I have is those stupid low foot pegs that drag all the time.
