A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone out there successfully completed a jockey or suicide shifter setup? I have an 81 gs650g and am interested in seeing if and how it can be done. I would prefer to have the clutch lever on the shifter itself.

Better idea, part out the bike, (I need a good 650 head) and shoot yourself. So much simpler.

So shoot myself first, then part out the bike? Your comment was too helpful it confused me.

While I agree with tkent02's evaluation of how useful a suicide shifter is, yes it can be done as it isn't rocket science to make a gearshift lever that sticks up so your hand can grab it and install a clutch lever perch and cable on it. I would make a mount for the shifter lever to pivot on that bolts to the bike frame and run a linkage to the gearbox shift shaft but that is the result of about 15 seconds of consideration of the problem.

You aren't going to find any info on this here on this, because most people here want a functional motorcycle and not a hipster abomination. I would suggest you cruise the H-D custom type bike and cafe bike websites for ideas, I have seen such things over that way. Hell, something like that may be easy to find on pinterest as a starting point.

sheesh, haters gonna hate. srsly tho, this site is a bit more....conservative? in our bike mods. A better place to ask might be oldskoolsuzuki (are they still around?) or dotheton or somewhere like that.....good luck......

I've never seen an experienced rider make such a request.

Suicide shifter on Suzuki GS650 = pouser trying too hard to be cool.

I haven't seen it on this site, I'm kinda new here though so... It's a cool idea though. I've always liked them as long as it fits the style/look of the bike.

No, those guys like to go fast, or at least create the illusion of being able to go fast.

I am more interested in how it would mechanically work. Maybe jockey shift in left hand and gear shifter could be the clutch pedal!

Or put the shifter in the middle of the seat and make it a butt shifter. The silly things that people come up with to ruin a bike.:(

The problem you're running into here is the fact that, mechanically, it puts form directly into the way of function. Why ruin the bike (unless it's already been Sawsalled to hell) and make it perform unsafely? Tom's suggestion may be a bit extreme. Russian roulette would be the compromise this might afford.

fabric insulated electrics?
Exposed valve springs?
Leather drive belts?
Wooden spokes?
drip feed carb ticklers?
kerosene headlamps?

Also how would I go about extending my driveshaft so I can make the bike longer? That would let me put a bigger tire on the back right?

Nope, and nope... sell it and buy a longgggg bike with a suicide clutch/shifter.
