DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just got a GS550E with some issues...

well I gotta get after Nerobro to post the pics he took but the wonderful weekend we had with near 60 degree temps we "wasted" paint stripping and priming Nerobro's frame, swing arm assembly and head stock. we got started about 10:00 or 10:30 and started the agonizing process. Paint stripper, let it sit 10 - 15 minutes, scrape/wipe it off. Then do it all again about 3 or 4 times on all the parts. Break mid-day for lunch and a quick visit to my folks place the next town over and back again to repeat the process again. A quick wipe down of everything with lacquer thinner as a cleaner and a few coats of black primer. Now everything looks pretty nice.

aack chrome fenders anything but........ sorry i just personally dislike them lots even if they came from the factory that way.

I bet you especially don't like the big shiney honkin' chrome fender on the rear of your 550 ehhhh.......? HahahahhahahaahAHHA

PS: I love my chrome bits, just because yours is pitted, dirty and dull ain't my fault. :-({|=

I like the chrome front fender on my 1000. It compliments my polishing work. :)

So yeah, there's been progress on the bikes.

I finally finished painting the frame, and the associated bits. But here's what we started with. Well almost. This is after teh instalation of the headset and setting the bearings up properly. Greased, the head is smooth as silk again.

Note... the front fender is PRIMER. :-) it's not painted yet for several reasons. Most importantly it got scratched installing it in THOSE forks... and I still have 650 forks, and top end coming my way in JUST A WEEK!

Oh yeah. To Add to my headaches. Pod Filters.

My bike got the engine put back in it tonight. I lost two engine mount bolts.... I'll need to buy those tomorow.

My bike is very nearly ready to ride again.

Next block that gets put in my bike will have 650 pistons and barrels. I can't wait.

As of saturday this is what the bike looks like... Pictures of it's trip out of the basement and the installed engine tomorow.

I'm in pretty good shape. Probally 95%. My ultimate goal is to be 110% ;-)

Rock on! Glad you stayed with us and rebuilt the bike. True spirit!!

Probally time to update this thread. So the GS550, is now a GS673.

  • Alphabet Exhaust
  • GS650 Fork
  • Dynojet Stage 3
  • Emgo Pods
  • CX500 R/R

And in the short term, I have a set of ZRX1100 shocks on the way. A gallon of Black catalized paint. Some blue 1/2" wide pinstriping. And I just might go for a 140mph speedometer. I think I'm going to stick with a plain chain on the bike, I can handle $30 a year for chain on this thing. Especially if I keep doing crazy things to the engine.

Now that the 83 550ES is done and back on the road, it's time to make the 80 pretty versus just functional.

The forks are over and done with. This will be the seccond year the 650 forks are on the bike. they are an exact, direct, swap.
