    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks to the guys for posting pics and advice for fixing my starter clutch on my GS1100G. I wouldn't even have started to fix it if it wasn't for the info I found here. I bought the bike not running and I have had it for six months and ever started to take it apart thinking it was going to cost more then it did. As it would turn out I spent less then $20 on the fix. THANK YOU SO MUCH for taking the time to post. Nick

ok! i just got back from my first ride! oh its so good! i have had this bike for six months and didnt start working on it till i found you all here three days ago. THANK YOU SO MUCH. ITS SO DAMN SWEET! i need to do the carbs, but it fired right up and it idles fine. seems a bit pokie till about 3500 then runs up smooth. its quiet. i never had a shafty before. im having a fit as i type this........ OH MAN ITS SO GOOOOOOD!

I could go on about how you need to do the carbs, etc. but just enjoy the bike for a while. We can all see how THRILLED you are to be riding it on the road. Just enjoy it for a while and gets some miles under your belt. We are all happy for you.

Thanks for the good words guys. Took her for a real shake down, about 75 miles started at 1/4 tank ran it about 20 miles filled up with 93. Seems to be gettin better. I dont think im ever going to ride my 97 dr650 again! This is the 20th or so bike I have had and I think it my be my new fav. I had a couple of kz1000's a 77 and 81 and a mint 81 gs550, a 95 gs500 I bought new (and put 85,000 miles on it) and alot of bikes that I had less then a year or two. I have the DR and a Tomos targa xl (golden bullet) the Tomos is my next project. I plan to ride it to key west from my house here in jacksonville in the next year or two. The thing about this GS is its a time machine. I'm 34 next weekend. when I was 13 I got the GS550. When this thing fired up today....... well I was 13 again. The dash is the same (sorta) the feel was the same. As far as the carbs go, It feels good at 3/4 of the right hand but low rpm and high vacuum, like 5th gear 3500 its cold pipping in and out. I'll get to it in the next week or two. For now I have a super nice daily driver comfy shafty commuter and It looks so so minty. Today was such a good day.
 
Dont waste your money on the $5.00 a gallon stuff. Use 87 oct and a few oz. of SeaFoam and just keep ridin.....Itll get better every mile.

Congrats, I know that I particularly enjoy the feeling of getting a new to me, but old bike back on the road. Enjoy it while it lasts. The euphoria wears off fast when you have been riding it for a while. I guess you know that all too well, having owned 20 bikes.
 
I need some pics too. OK now for the carbs. I dont think its the carbs at all. I think its the petcock. I got out an put 75 miles on it again today and after 20 or so she ran like a champ. I think it took that long to clean the plugs of all the drain out. Got back to the house for lunch and let it cool, talked with wife for a bit and fired it off in the garage. Waiting for it to warm noticed a drip from the air box... I think now the cold pipe was wash down. The 3500rpm hard roll-on is something I read about the gs1100g having and normal. So, I'm going to do the carbs anyway and get a new cock and a new batt and see what its like to ride a new 82 gs. Im going to work on pics but I bet it will take me longer to load a pic on this page then it will to pull the carbs, change the cock, and install a new batt. Can I put a 1150 16v head on this bike?
