If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

hello guys. i finally got my shiney vance and hines 4-1 put on my 80 850. i still have the stock air box and filter. i jetted carbs with 122.5 mains and 42.5 pilot jets. seems to be running good with this setup. any advice on replacing factory filter with a K&N in the air box? thanks for looking:D

Just my opinion here.. K&Ns are substandard in comparison to stock paper filters because of 2 factors.. ONE..any filter that i can hold up and SEE light thru tells me that fine dust will also pass thru it in spite of all the oiling in the world.. Two..Its been my experience that because they are ( to me ) too porous and flimsy, they dont provide the correct amount of back pressure that the stock one does and result in a lean condition,,and it seems that some bikes are harder to actually get to run right with a K&N filter. My buddies Katatna is case in point..it runs WAY WAY better withn the stock than tha K&N.

K&N's flow well because they don't filter well. We have had this discussion many times before in now archived threads, so I don't want to rehash everything again. That said, with a K&N insert into the stock airbox I doubt there would be drastic jetting issues. I had one in my old 850 for a while and didn't notice any problems with running, but the plugs where pure white so I put the stock filter back in place.

I've been running a K & N factory style filter on my 850 ever since I bought my bike. The biggest problem I had was when I over oiled the filter (newbie mistake). So far, it's worked fine in the 93,000 miles I've got on the bike. My carb problems have been from aged intake boots lately, definetely not the filter system.

Hi,

I respect everyone's views on this subject. I'll just add that I've never used a stock paper air filter on my bike. I have a K&N and a UNI filter. I go back and forth depending on which one is clean. I can't say that I notice much difference.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff
