A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

KD or ND Identify

jtgraha2,
Just a bit of info may help..like what bike is this advancer off ?
Rodm850g

Yeah I can't really see either ND or KD in it, but yet I can't find any other stamping.

I have a KD at home but can't check until later. I'll watch this thread and update tonight if no one comes forward with an answer.

alright thanks so much...i basically just have the advancer to go off of and not the contact plate

For additional info incase anyone is wondering, I called dynatek to find out exactly what is different between the ND and KD systems are. The rotor height is the only difference. THe ND rotor is "1.250 tall and the KD is "1.100 tall.

If anyone is able to measure an advancer of known KD or ND system please let me know what the attached dimension is.

Thanks!

ND Just over 1/2" or 13mm.

Comes from a GS1000 with electronic ignition. Points one has two of those running surfaces.

The ND is just below the post which holds the spring on 1-4. Nothing like the info on the one in the picture.

If you want I can photo both types that I have but they are both ND versions.

Suzuki mad.

Sorry but couldn't find the advancer, must have gave it to the guy that bought my 550E.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the help guys. Right I still don't have a definite answer though as to what style Dyna system I should buy....ie either the ND or KD Here's what I know definitely.

1) I have a mech. advancer from a 1978 GS550
2) The 1978 advancer has a 16.5mm machined end shaft
3) I'm putting all this on a 1985 GS550 w electronic ignition so its an ND?
4) Dynatek says the only difference between the two is height, ND- 1.25" and the KD is 1.10" tall.
5) a known ND system has an endshaft of only .500"

So I have a KD style advancer But my bike was originally equipped with an ND style system. I'm lost as to which style dyna s system I need to make work.

Thanks!

Since you are ditching the ND system on the bike originally, I don't think that's pertinent. Sounds like you need the KD system.

As a side note, did you find that old thread where someone installed a Dyna S on a second generation 550 like you have? Might be useful if you haven't already reviewed it.
