    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hey GS guys in Dayton Ohio....Who can cut a new key in Dayton. My old key is wearing out !!
 
Most folks would say Ace Hardware could be a choice but I found here they won't do it. I have a locksmith here in Miamisburg that said he could but haven't had the chance to take him my keys yet. I would suggest stopping into one of the locksmiths and showing them your key.
 
My local motorcycle shop here cuts them .. I had one cut just on wednesday of last week .. its not a suzuki key but it was a matching blank . He cuts one key for $20 or 2 for $30 .. yeah a little pricy ! But my key looked like a hockey stick and had a crack in it , so didnt want to have it break on me , .. :eek: that was the only key I had !!
 
Do you have an "original" key that has the key code on it?

Not sure about most of the key-copying kiosks like Ace, Lowe's, Home Depot, etc., you need to go to a locksmith. I have not had to do this yet, but can recommend one locksmith to NOT go to. :eek: Centerville Lock and Safe. He is a crusty old fart that does not like to do anything that is out of the ordinary. Apparenly, cutting a motorcycle key by the code is "out of the ordinary".

If you're just making a copy then ACE has the blanks and can cut them. If you need to do it by the key code then a locksmith is your only way to go. So far I've been lucky and have been able to salvage any motorcycle key by simply making a copy of the key I had. I did have to have a key made for my motor home by key code and the locksmith did it then.
 
The problem I've had with ebay keys by code is the ones I have gotten (2 so far) have both been too short to do the ignition. The key works in the seat lock so I know its correct code.

Not from any of the local stores no. Aubuchons (think Ace) are the only ones to try. They failed. Miserably. Haven't been able to find a reputable locksmith to give it a go. Going to order some proper Suzuki blanks before I try. I have a 3 bikes that will need new keys cut at some point. All of them are working but very very worn.
 
Check with your local hardware stores to see which ones carry EITHER one of these key blank numbers as they BOTH work on these GS models.

 
It isn't an original key. The edges are rounded off and it's getting more difficult to get the key to turn the bike on..
 
What is the number on the lock or on the side of the key? (three digits)
 
It isn't an original key, it is a duplicate and it has no numbers on it. I don't see any numbers on the ignition switch, were would I find them?
 
As I mentioned in another key thread, my local key-cutter (in a pub) fished out a blank from a Japanese car (Honda, or similar) and cut me two separate copies. The original key that was the most worn was difficult to copy well, so I finished it off at home with a diamond file. Both now work properly, and I've retired the originals to the desk drawer for safe-keeping.
Cost? About a tenner for both, in total.

The helmet lock or gas cap lock has the numbers, if it still uses the same key as the ignition. If not the numbers are either on the side of the keyhole or on the side of the lock, take the ignition lock out to look for a three digit number.
 
Thanks jbird. that's good info...I'll have to remove the ignition switch cylinder and maybe find those 3 digits I keep hearing about!
 
Don't think you'll easily find it on the ignition cylinder. Easily found on the seat/helmet lock or fuel filler cap.
