    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello, is it normal for the gs1000 to have a 1 to 2 second delay when turning on left or right blinker signal lights? it's not instantaneous like my other bikes. makes switching lanes a bit dodgy. once it's flashing it's fine, it's just on the initial selection

i tried swapping out the flasher relay with a used spare and it was the same.

thoughts?
 
It may seem like one or two seconds, but might not actually be qute that long. It's somewhat normal, it depends on the flasher that is installed.
The stock flashers were somewhat instantaneous, some replacements act just like yours.

If having an "instantaneous" turn signal is impacting your lane-changing ability, I'd say you are not planning far enough ahead.
Turn signals are not supposed to be used to say "hey, look at what I am doing", but rather "excuse me, I'd like to come over when possible. May I?" :o

that's exactly what i am saying. it's really annoying.

steve, it doesn't seem that long, it is at least that long. it's actually a bit hazardous. anyways, thanks for the motorcycle lane changing lesson. :rolleyes:
 
Maybe you have dirty connections. With ignition on (but bike not running), does it take even longer for it to flash?
 
no its the same, running or not.

do these relays work on thermal bimetalic strip principle?
 
Low voltage, like when charging system not working, can cause the flasher to flash slow. That I know.

You are asking about a longer than expected delay before they start to "work". Dont know, but maybe that is about same as flashing slow.

Check battery voltage with engine off. Then check battery voltage with engine running at mid RPM, say 3500 or 4000. Should be lot more that with engine off, like mid to upper 13s or right about 14 volts.

SLow flashers are often the first sign of charging system problems, then followed by starter turning slow, then followed by engine running poorly, then followed by engine stopping or by not being able to start. So check this before you find yourself on side of road.

my charging system is healthy, i have tested it. getting 14v.

the lag is when you first switch it on, there's a pause then it flashes at normal intervals.

could it be that the relay leads are reversed and the relay is starting in the "open" relay position? does that even make sense? maybe i'll experiment with that.

...or perhaps i'll try an electronic flasher relay.
