Layering Seat Foam

Hey guys, so I was installing my new B&H seat cover the other night. Even after heating it and pulling so tight the seems began to go, I still have some extra material in the front part. (The back fits pretty well) I called B&H and they told me that it may be because the existing foam body has been compressed over the years.

I don't really want to go through the process of cutting it and getting supercell foam and carving it etc etc etc.... Really all I want to do is layer some additional foam on top of the existing seat body to build it up a bit to take care of the wrinkles. Has anyone ever done this? I was thinking that some upholstery foam (where would I get that?) or maybe some carpet padding may be the trick. Has anyone ever tried this?

I did this, installed an extra piece towards the front section.
Worked for awhile until it started to slide back and to the left.
It worked for less than a year and made the front feel odd.
Make all the comments you want...........

I then went to another upholstery shop and had triple density foam
installed, the whole seat, for around $100.
Best $100 I've spent.....well except that time in Atlanta........

LOL thanks for the info.

Did you glue the new foam to the old foam? I'm wondering if I'm going to have a slipping problem. Did it feel fine before it slipped or did you have the problem the whole way through?

What did the upholsterer do differently to install the triple density foam?

yes it was glued.......... simple piece single layer.

As to the "new" foam, this was triple density. layered and cut to fit.
Guy did a great job.
I've done 300+ mile days and no monkeybutt.

Cool thanks for the info I don't want to pay another 100 when I just paid 75ish for a seat cover, so I may try doing it myself like you did. Where did you buy the foam?

Here's my follow up report. I used very soft foam as I just wanted it to be a filler. It's standard single density upholstery foam that I carved using a serrated steak knife. The end result: it looks a little tad bit poofy, but significantly better than with the wrinkles. It IS comfy, since compressed it adds a somewhat firm cushion.

As an aside, B&H.... I want to recommend them, but I don't think I can. First off their customer service wasn't fantastic. They pretty much shrugged off my problem that the cover wasn't fitting, instead blaming it on compressed worn down seat foam. As far as I'm concerned, when your website advertises guaranteed fitment, you should get guaranteed fitment or someone falling over themselves to fix the problem. Second, apparently the extra foam that's suppossed to come with the cover only does if the seat has a pattern (ie not the fabric I selected). Strike two for the basket weave (reference bwringers issue with it having holes). ANyway, it worked out with a few extra hours of work.
