A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have an '81 gs850:
There is oil leaking out of my crankcase on the right side. I removed the cover and replaced the large gasket, I noticed that the oil was coming from the large bolt coming out of the center of the crankcase. For you military guys, it is a class two leak.

I hope I explained it, I'm not a huge tech guy, that is why this site is such a help.

What do I need to do? I can answer more questions too.

It's the large bolt coming through the wires when removing the ignition or points cover (I believe)

If you follow this link, the oil leaks from 9,10,11,12 (on parts diagram), the leak is actually from the middle of this mess.

Okay guys, I've figured it out and searched the forums too. There hasn't been a post about this for a while and I wanted to see if anyone has new ideas.

It is the crank seal on a 81 gs850. I figure I have to remove the ignition plate and then pull that seal. Any tips, any ideas, anybody done it recently and want to share?

By the way, I'm assuming that it is Number 22 on this picture.

If it is to be removed from the outside of the crankcase run a couple of screws into it to give you something to grab then use them to pull it out.

After I pull it out, you just jam the new one back in? It seems to be a $10.00 seal not including shipping, so screwing it up could add up quickly!

Use something the right diameter to cover the new seal and tap it back in with as little force as possible and keep it going in straight. A little light lubrication will help.
